BATTER UP! Someday this little slugger might step up to bat at the Vet Stadium, but recently he was happy just being entered in the Avalon Batting Contest. Over 50 youngsters took part in the event held at the Tenth Street Recreation Field recently. The batting contest was held under the auspices of the Avalon Recreation Department. The contest was bnfp'of many on-going summertime even(£hat help youth interest high in competitivebfents. Robbers Extinguish Fire Co. ■ '

Sunday, the Court House Fire Co. filled in for (he absentee Kiwanis Club and played the Robbers, formerly known as Cape May County Phillies, and went down to defeat 6 - 4. The Robbers even loaned the Fore Co. three good (?) players, all to no avail. Drew Albater. who defeated the Sheriffs Dept, fast Sunday, dominated the game and had the batters hitting harmless flies until the last inning. Kiwanis Softball With an awesome display of power, the .Kiwanis softball team won the deciding game of the series with Court House Fire Co. 14-3. Hitting home runs for Kiwanis were Kevin Sherman. Joe Tomlin. Big Don Rhinesmith and John Tomlin. Richie Rhinesmith had four hits. Don Rhinesmith. three. Gil Sinkway. three, and Mike McLaughlin two. For the Fire Co.. Dave May led the hitting with two hits. Walt Turner excelled in the field for the fire company but the million dollar infield of Don Rhinesmith/ Billy Tawpash, Joe Tomlin and Richie Rhinesmith completed two double plays and put up an invincible defense in the field. Hospital Auxiliary Luncheon AVALON - The Slone Harbor-Avalon Branch of the Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will meet at noon. September 13, at the Whitebrier Hotel, 20th Street and the Beach, Avalon. Following a Dutch Treat luncheon there will be a business meeting after which Mrs. Robert Conroy, the newly installed president of the County Auxiliary organization, will address the group. The luncheon menu will offer a choice of roast beef or crab quiche. Anyone interested in the function of the auxiliary is invited to attnet, according to Mrs. Rachel Sloan. Branch President.
