There were plenty of comings and goinpt around here this summer. The Isaac Patterson clan converged on Stone Harbor, and it was impossible to saunter down 109th St. and not encounter a member. I looked forward to encountering them; they are lovely people. Doc’s distafff had perfect attendance this season. Barbara (daughter No. 3) and her husband, Marty Hoover, drove over from Ohio with their elfins, Vanessa and Megan, and were joined by teenqueen Carrie. Judy Beth (No. 2) and her mate, Stan Mann, with fairhaired Nancy came down from Fort Washington; Patty (No. 1) and her spouse, Bill Doran, maintain a vacation home
here. N
Incidentally. Dr. Patterson tame to this island for many moons before retiring here from medical practice in Westville. He recalls how, circa six decades ago, his gredlhncle used to tear down from Avalon in a Haynes touring car, doing 60+ mph on a gravel road. In those days, one needn’t 90 West to see a Dust Bowl! Doc’s sister, Dot, has been coming to Stone Harbor for over 30 years, and she and her husband, Ernie Ade, had surprise visitors. Ernie's daughter, Marilynn, flew down from Brighton, Mass., and his
son Bob and wife Kathleen came over form Toledo with their H’l pixie Christine. They wanted to be here when Ernie got out of the hospital. Ernie’s doing fine now and is busy again manicuring his lawn and shrubbery. Col. Jim Baird and his wife Nancy motored from their home in New Port Ritchey gnd buzzed around ‘‘up north” all summer long. Nancy threw a wingding cocktail party to celebrate Jim’s 77th birthday. and they spent several weekends visiting relatives and longtime friends in Pottstown and environs. The Big Event was the annual reunion on August 10-11-12 of the Sixth f* Port Headquarters. U.S. Army. This contingent guarded the ports of Casablanca, Naples and Marseilles during World War II. Jim and Nancy checked into the Pocono Hilton at Stroudsburg for a whirlwind of activities, with the highlight of the weekend a 7-hour bus tour through the picturesque Poconos. The delightful summer came to a close on* September 1st with the sedding of Jim’s grandson. James Baird III, to Loma Bell, at Pottstown. And where do you suppose the newlyweds are spending ^their homey moon? Where else but at Stone Harbor, where it's Super in September 1

AVALON — Streets are regularly cleaned in Avalon, but there is one street that iR^utstanding in its cleanlindk. thanks in great part toyohn Rothman. an 88-yeanold retired Coast Guardsman who daily sweeps the street and sidewalks of 76th Street. A tour of the street In the beach block will prove the point that the gutters are immaculate, the sidewalks spotless and the beach, well cared for. Because he does this routinely, and never asks anyone for any recompense. John Rothman recently received a Certificate’ of Appreciation from Avalon Mayor Ellsworth Armacost. .
