Dr. and Mrs. Garcia were observed on the sidelines and the doctor's services were pressed into action with the injuries to Leighton and Walker. Mr. and Mrs. Don Rhinesmith and son Richie and buddy Tommy Gihorski were there Also Ed Leighton,Mike Brockmand and George Tanner, who modestly didn’t want his name used. Proud dads were there as well as ‘ grandad Pop Warren and former Middle . athletes George and Dave Tanner and John Richardson. Middle is lucky to have such an interested team doctor as Rodolpho Garcia, who is even ready to leap fences to get to the injured. Son, Andrew Garcia is chafing at the bit ud at
Widener College in Pa. where he has been assigned to the J.C. Squad and can't wait to get more action. Softball Note: Several Cape May. County team* gave a good account of themselves in the Scotty Ireland Tournament held in Atlantic City. Glorias, plating under the sporv sor^ip of the Olympic Shirtmen, is in the finals. While Kona's and Wildwood'Italian Bakery gave a good account of themselves before bowing out. That about winds up the softball season, except for a few independent teams' like Kiwanis who will continue to play until the return to standard time puts a half to twilight games. * The Meadowview Sports Complex, behind the high school, is really a beehive of activity after school. The Old Sport announces that Flag Football practice will start this Saturday, Sept. 15 at Raider Field in Dias Creek Rd. The weeds have been cut down and this week the field should be shaped for practice on Sunday. Boys 9-15 are eligible for the Raiders Flag football team. 8 men comprise a team and flags ar^ pulled from belts instead of using tackles or tag; to stop the play.
■Great Carpool Caper
MAYS LANDING - Atlantic Community College, in conjunction with McDonald's restaurants, this fall will sponsor ah area-wide carpooling effort to transport persons to and from its Mays Landing campus. This project, titled The Great Carpool Caper II, is open to all ACC students *nd employees j- nearly 5,000 people. Applications are being accepted from pllential drivers and riders. \ In addition to Wving money, time, gasolinfc, and wear and tear on automobiles and roads, participants in the Great' Carpool Caper will receive a free llinch from MqD&ialds. X The Great Carpool Caper ill get underway when clhsseS resume Tuesday. Sept. 4. ThejCollege and McDonald's sponsored a, similar carpooling effort in 1977. Everyone applying to be a carpooler, either driver or rider, will receive a free large order of french fries from McDonald's and a colorful bumper sticker. Applicants will furnish information about their ACC schedules and the location of their residences. The information will be transferred to punched cards and ACC will match drivers with riders. Under the Great Carpool Caper’s groundrules, a cat-pool is an automobile entering the campus with .three or more occupants.
