and one part time Registered Pharmacists. In addition to these people he has a total of five nurses working on the Hospital’s

In an effort to keep costs down, "unit doses" which offer convenience are used only when necessary. Otherwise, a patient Will receive a tablet or pill from a bulk bottle thus helping to

save money.

Although the pace seems hectic to the casual observer, Petruzzo and his staff say their workload is not interrupted during the busy summer months, although the nuihber of prescriptions jumps an average of 1,500 during the summer months of June, July and August. It is estimated that there are over 3,000 different kinds of drugs under Petruzzo’s supervision in the pharmacy at Burdette, and more are added as new drugs arrive on the market. Patient Profile cards are kept, according to new Jersey State Law to insure drug compatibility. Charges for medication for in-patients are covered by

most insurance policies; whereas drugs administered in Emergency are .only covered in the case of an "injury”. * The Pharmacy operates daily from 7 a.m. to 3 pi.m. however, Petruzzo is on call 24 hours per day everyday, should a particular drug be needed. A system of double checking by the Pharmacist who fills the prescription at Burdette Tomlin has worked so well that even Insurance inspectors marvel that ho mistakes in filling ptescriptions have been made. Petruzzo credits his hard working, meticulous staff with this work. Taking this extra precaution one step further. Petruzzo explained that a member of his department’s I.V. team is res pons bile to begii* all Intravenous medications in Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital. This assures that the patient is receiving the medication which Was called for by the physician and that it is being administered in the proper manner.
