MTHSVs Regional Saturday morning at Memorial Field Coach Ex ley unveiled to a large number of Middle Township fans his version of the 1979 Panther Football

team.

And a very entertaining session it was as Middle triumphed in a game conditions scrimmage (but without kick-oofs and punt runbacks) 26-14. Coach Exley and his staff of Brian Tetley and Norm Smith were "Happy with the team’s performance offensively. On defense they were experimenUng with personnel in the secondary who were young and inexperienced.” On offeree "The team looked good - is right where staff wants them to be at this point." Individual stars on offense were Buddy Bailey who scored two TDs. Chris Nichols who scored one and Mark Garcia who ran into TD city from the 17 yard line. On defense Buddy Bailey intercepted a pass, Jeff Tomlin blocked a punt and recovered, leading to a touchdown. Eddie McLaughlin, Donny Rhinesmith and Neal Chase were lowers of strength. The officials for the scrimmage were Referee Lee Rogers, and Umpire

Mainland Scrimmage Harry Brown. Local men George Tanner and Jack Richardson held the chains and Uncle Bill Warren manipulated the down

marker.

Riming the game for the 1st half was Big BUI Penman of M.T.H.S. staff. The kicking specialists for the Panthers will be Artie Cannon, who rfeally booms some long, high punts, and Chris Nichols kicking the points after touchdown. John McCray or John Collins will kickoff and Art Cannon can also perform

this job.

His searcn tor a split end seems to have ended with John Collins, who has good hands and a nose for the ball. He will be backed up by Bobby King and Jee Donohue. At tight end Neal Chase is a good hook blocker and can catch the short pass. .. Finally, this reporter must emphasize the feeling of togetherness/ and enthusiasm which exists on this team, both on the part of the coaches and players. If the Old Sport had a son young enough to play footb u ii, he would be proud to have him on this squad under Coaches Exley. Tetley, Smith, Yerk.and Kaighn.
