Avalon Women’s GOP Plan Champagne Gala *

AVALON - The Avalon Women’s Republican Club will hold their tenth annual Champagne Gala in the Princeton Lounge, Avalon, Sunday, October 7 from B: 30 to B: 30 p. m., according to Mrs Marian Giltrap and Mrs Pauline Petrica, co-

chairwomen.

Audubon Society Plans Autumn Weekend

The New J«»ey Audubon Society promises a rare experience for the bird watcher and naturalist at its Cape May Autumn Weekend. October 5,6,7 6 8. The 33rd annual event coincides with the peak fall migration for some 368 species of warblers, .shorebirds and raptors.' Cape May has long been synonymous with autumn birding because it is uniquely located at a point where migratory birds coverage. Raptors, such as hawks and owls take a southwesterly course from Cape May, while warblers and shore birds continue down the Atlantic coast. A full Cape May Weekend schedule will keep the naturalist about as busy as the migrating birds. Daytime programs include bird walks, hawk and owl banding demonstrations, botany walks, butterfly tagging, and bog trips as well as hawk watches and a boat trip to view pelagic, or sea birds. A reception for E. Darrell Smith, NJAS "Artist-in-Residence”, will be held at the Christian Admiral Hotel, the weekend headauarters, on Saturday, October 6 from 4 to 6 p.m. Ten original paintings from Mr. Smith's "Owls of the World” series will be displayed. Three lithographic prints:

"Snowy Owl", "Barred Owl", and "Great Horned Owl" will be for sale with remarqued prints available. Mr. Smith will donate half of the profits of " any prings sold through, the New Jersey Audubon Society to Owl haven, aj. NJAS nature center m Monmouth County. ' • 4 The NJAS Conservation Av6rd will^e presented on Friday evening to six New Jersey citizens. This year’s recipients 7 will - be* recognize® for their efforts toward preserving the Pipe Barrens.
