THE LOBSTER HOUSE FISH MARKET SEAFOOD Fresh From Our Boats Daily Fisherman’s Wharf Cape May, N.J. 884-3064 FISH MARKET AND TAKE OUT SEAFOOD SHOP Open AH Year

All week long local anglers were catching fishthen along came the NorthEaster-first felt on Friday-then taking hold Saturday, and spoiling the fishing; and finally opening full blast Sunday with 35 M.P.H. winds, and the fishing went to pot Ronnie Tompkins, of the Villas, who runs the 'RonEH" called me on Friday to tell me that he and John O'Neill hit them up in Hereford on Wednesday iWeakies and flounder); and then he and Burt Smyth had 36 weakies, and an unusual catch on Thursday. Burt hooked something big. and it was real heavy, so Ronnie helped him pull it inland pretty soon they had a rod. and a real good spinning reel, but there was something else on the line, so they started winding in the spinner, and up came a big sting-ray. which they quickly disposed of — that's the fish tale of the season, so far. Almost every day though. Capt. Tomatoberts on the “My Gal" — Captain

Bill Gormley on the "Serenity ", and many S ther charter Captains ave been scoring on ueakfish and fluke for their parties at Hereford Inlet, but on Sunday when John Magnarro and I met with them at Mill Creek Marina, we were all of one accord in spite of all the fish that were caught all week long, the wind was just blowing too hard to try to fish I went home, and went to church where I ran into Jack Douglass, who told me about another hot spot in the Bay * that was producing Jack had 45 one day - 50 weakies the next — and then, a grand finale of 65 weakfish on Friday out near the can buoy offshore of Bug Light , I knew the Bay was producing weakfish. because Ken Thompson was in telling me that his grandfather Nate High had been scoring daily on nice weakfish. so. there you have it! Weakies and flounder in the Ocean good site Weakfish offshore in the Bay. and up the Bay a little further than we've been fishing. Bluefish were around in the Ocean too. because on Saturday. John Magnarro and I witnessed the cleaning of some big ones down at Mill Creek Manna The Captain told us that he got them right in front of the Christian Admiral in the.Ocean. It will probably be two or three days before the effects of the Blow on Sunday subsides, but. by the weekend, action ought to start again.

Now I d like to swing oft this dissertation, and pay tribule to a man who pioneered bill fish tagging and releasing Woods Hole Oceangraphic Institution was the life work of Frank J. Mather III. scientist emirtus. who started the cooperative game fish tagging program in 1954 and it continued thus until 1974 when it became a joint effort operated by WHOI and Southeast Fisheries , Center < SEFC' of the National Marine Fisheries Service 'NMFS’ at Miami. Florida. A gradual transfer of this ipofaram is no* goingon^fldany new tags and flafR&an be obtained from ; f JTCooperal ive GamoFflh Tagging Program. Southeast Fisheries Center. National Marine Fisheries Center < NOAA >. 75 Virginia Beach Drive. Miami. Florida 33149. That’s the particulars of this communique, but the whole story is one of dedication and preserv era nee by a man who refused to believe it was impossible to have sport fishermen tag and release bill fish, so that records could be kept of their travels along our coast Our angling society owes a great deal to Frank J. Mather III. for his quest, and we will always remember his lifelong work as he retires to his home in Key Biscayne. Florida, where his wife Natalie and he will continue their fish lagging on their 28-foot Bertram. IN 1 "AHI." Much good fishing to you. Frank and Natalie , you've ear »ed it. and w Ik*never we see a red release flag with a white “T" across it. we ll think of you. and your contribution lo our sport. On another train of thought.
