Iggy Pop's career has been one of many ups and * downs. His early work with The Stooges still holds up as some of the most brutal music ever to reach vinyl. Unfortunately, personal problems have limited him to having only a cult following. “New Values" (Arista) could he his breakthrough album. With rich, haunting melodies, similar to David Bbwie’s. and a hard driving band, Iggy Pop proves he’s a dynamic performer. His raw vocals and songwriting are the logical extension of The Doors, as Iggy has a firm grip on both music and theatrics. Once again. Iggy Pop has returned with a brilliant record. In the seventies. Los Angeles has been known more for its laid-back country rock artists, hut that’s rapidly changing. The Knack have paved the way and soon Hie Pop!, The Beat, and 20-20 will he having hits. Another to add to that list is Walter Egan Coming off one hit, "Magnet And Steel," Egan has a strong follow up with this, his third, album. “Hi FI” (Columbia) is a solid album. Even when Egan's vocals are forceful, he retains a warm texture to his voice, enabling him to be convincing ' on hard, uptempo tunes, as well as ballads. Walter Egan is making fine pop music The Simple Minds are an interesting Scottish band Their first American release. The television show Happy Days saved Suzi Quatro’s career on our shores. Born and raised in Detroit, Suzi found fame in England and apathy in her homeland. Being a semiregular on Happy Days changed that by making her a household name and "Stumblin' In" took her to the top five "Suzi. ..And Other Four Letter Words" (RSO) is a slick, rocking album. Besides her current hit, “I’ve Never Been In Love, " there are nine other tunes that prove Suzi Quatro is a pleasing vocalist with a good ear for a commercial pop tune. There’s no looking back for Suzi Quatro.
