The visit of the Pope touched most of us in some way. Nearly all of us saw him or his image. Whether or not we revere the man as "His Holiness” we are each nonetheless confronted by the good he symbolizes. In our busy, worldly lives, a flash such as this does much to inspire us even for a moment, which is all it takes for one spark to

The pattern of the star recurs in Nature. To the ancient Greeks it was the source of the Divine proportion, the ultimate harmonious relationship. The star, symbol of honor, nothing less on which to present the seed. The seed, a secret sphere, appearing round and hard, Otats all ; no hint at the potential within. The painting of this pod, then, becomes more than the study of its appearance. There are also implications. By enlarging the pod twenty^ times its size onto the cahvas, and by running it through her own hand, the artist hopes to reveal not only its structure, but also through impact and interpretation, its meaning, which might never be noticed as a small dried pod, hanging on a branch by the side of the road.
