A good number at critics have turned their backs on Blondie. All at which it rather odd. aa the group liaa steadily improved. Their new album. “Eat To The Beat" (Chryaalia) is easily their finest moment, as the group is playing and singing with style and conviction. Oh Well some critics only have praise when the artist is struggling to make ends meet. Find fame, as did Blondie *ith their charttopping single "Heart Of Glass." and the scribes yell "sell-out." Don’t pay any attention to Ihe cynics. "Eat To The Beal" is a highly enjoyable record. No radical departures this time around. Blondie dish out a steady stream of infectious rockers that are instantly memorable, due lo Debbie Harry's sensuous vocals. Her power and sense of humor would be an asset to any band, as "Dreaming" and Uvir* In The Real World" amply prove. But. Blondie is a group. And they're lucky to possess the tightest rhythm section in America, with drummer Clem Burke and bassist Nigel Harrison, the rich keyboards of Jimmy Destri, and the blistering guitars of Chris Stein and Frank Infante. They're playing some of the hottest music today, so support Blondie. They deserve it. "Rock It" (Atco) is Chuck Berry’s best album in years. His guitar work is confident, he's in fine voice, and he's written songs that are on par with his early classics. This is simple, ^primal rock and roll, with a heavy dose of blues. Chubk Berry is living proof one doesn't have to be a teenager to play rock, just sincere. The Pop’s second album, "Go!" (Arista) isn't nearly as straightforward as their impressive debut. Instead at heavy metal guitar riffs^the group has accented their catchy song* with quirky ihusical breaks, not unlike The ' Cars. Excellent material and exuberant performances make this one of the year's better releases. The Pop are starting to pick up some airplay, so they should soon develop a decent following. N*w York s The Shirts "Street Light Shine" (Capitol) ia much better than their debut, which waa rather meandering. Annie Golden is a fine vocalist and a track such as “Laugh And Walk Away" is the perfect pop vehicle for her. Unfortunately, the album is marred by "Milton At The Savoy." which is overly cote and trite. Still. The Shirts merit watching. Anyone who bought "The Essential Jimi Hendrix Volume One" will be pleased to know "Volume Two" (WarnerBrothers) is oul. Jimi Hendrix was easily the most inventive guitarist rock ever saw. and it’s nice to know his muiic lives on. Hopefully, thifc re-issue series will, continue, because we 1 sholldn't be allowed to' forget what a great mus^ian Jimi Hendrix was
