The proceeds are split 60-40 between the crew and owner of the boat who, on the average, has invested close toll million in the boat and equipment. Many Virginia, Carolina and Southern boots are based here since commercial pickings are slim off their shores... Youngsters Walk for Deborah AVALON-45 Seven Mile Beach youngsters walked 10 miles on Sunday, Oct. 21, to raise $2500 for the Deborah Hospital. The odyssey began shortly after 1 p.m. at 121st Street, Stone Harbor, and wound its way down Second Avenue in Stone Harbor and Dune Drive, Avalon, to the northern extreme of Avalon and then back to the Avalon Community Hall at 30th Street. There a small party was given for the youngsters. The funds will benefit the Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital, located in Browns Mills. The hospital provides care to all, regardless of their race, creed, religion or ability to pay. Chairman Jean Glazier and Co-chairman Mary Grace Keen, were both pleased with the fine showing of support given the children who solicited pledges and walked or rode the distance on bicycles. A prize of $100 will be given to the boy and girl who collect the most money by December 20.

(X)URT HOUSE - The year's first town team tennis match at Jersey Cape Racquet Club got underway OCt. 16. Avalon Real Estate posted an impressive 35-21 victory over Neils Restaurant. The winners got off to a quick 8-3 lead as Bill Sorns turned back a stubborn Bob Heidoro in the first match: but Neil's rallied to even the score behind the aggressive play of Cathie Smith who surprised Avalon's Barbara Kerr by an 8-3 count. The match turned on the strong play of Avalon's three doUt>les teams who.swept through Neil’s and thus

provided the margin of victory. In the women's doubles June Mossbrook and Lois Campbell proved too much for Barbara Taylor and Merc Bauman in amassing an 8-5 truimph. Lyn Smith and Karen Wetherill also scored a hard fought 8-5 victory over Roni Zane and Bill Van Ness in mixed doubles competition.
