Armacost Blasts Dredging Delay

Page 17

AVALON — Avalon Mayor Ellsworth Armacost has termed the delay in the issuing of a permit for the dredging of this resort's backbays “An example of federal bureaucracy at its finest." The Mayor sees the delay of the dredging application, as a way of hindering Avalon’s economy. "If we were a large city, swinging a lot of political plums around we’d not only have our permits issued, but we’d have our backbays dredged long ago". Mayor Armacost stated. The U S. Army Corps of Engineers has withheld the issuance of a permit to dredge the necessary backbays so that many Borough residents’ docks aren’t landlocked at low

tide.

“This situation isn’t just an inconvenient one, it’s downright dangerous’’, stated the Mayor, pointing to the fact that there are some who summer in Avalon who might not know the waterways, think there is plenty of water, and accidentally run aground or cause an accident," Armacost said. The mayor called on Avalon residents to write a letter to Congressman William Hughes, Second District representative. Write another letter to our U.S. Senators William Bradley and Harrison Williams, he added. In Trenton, write to Governor Byrne and let him know how you feel Cape Gems Meet CAPE MAY - Recently The Gems of Cape May County held their Pall meeting at Neils Restaurant in Wildwood.
