Even though Dave Ed mundi hit the top ten in the early eeventiee with the powerful "I Hear You Knocking," he's had a rather rough time going from cult hero to auperatar. A string ot excellent albums were virtually ignored and Edmunds seemed doomed to be known to only a select few. Fortunately, that’s about to change. Since pairing with British eccentric Nick Lowe, to co-lead Rockpile, Dave Edmunds has shown signs of winning over America's hearts and dollars. His most recent long-player, “Repeat When Necessary” (Swan-Song) la full el limit, rocking songs which feature dynamic guitar breaks, overwhelming singing, and '"—'■ material. Ed-
no matter what the style Is, be always performs with conviction. Obviously, a lot of people agree, as "Repeat When Necessary" has done very well on the charts, as has his recent Single, "Girls Talk." Dave Edmunds will soon be able to relax, as the world is slowly catching up with Ms
talents.
The Police are one of the few new wave bands to find success in America. Their second album, ‘‘Reggatta De Blanc" (AMI) has Just been issued and, like their debut, the songs are fast and hard with a strong Influence of reggae music. The second side meanders a bit, but the leedofl track, “Hesaage In A Bottle" will surely find chart action. The Police seem well on their way to become one of the major acts in the

their debut for Capitol is a let-down. Why this pop group has rated two feature articles in Rolling Stone Magazine I’ll never understand. Sure, they're talented, but except for their cover of Gene Pitney’* “It Hurt* To Be In Love” this music is cold and distant. , After a couple of gold records as lead vocalist for Stories, Ian Lloyd embarked on a solo career. His first album under his own name was promising but didn’t hold up to repeated playings. Now he's returned with “Goose Bumps” (Scotti Brothers) and a single, “Slip Away,” that’s racing up tht charts. In a few weeks i should be hearing Away’’ on the radio, but. Ian Lloyd's album deserves to be heard, too. This is exciting pop music, sung by a man who clearly loves a good melody. It's idee to have Mm back.
