Cape Men’s Volleyball Action Gearing Up

CAPE MAY-The Men’s League has finally taken a complexion after seven weeks of furious volleying, smashing and serving and for the third straight year Riffraff has emerged as the team to beat. The acquisition of 'Big” Bob Jackson seems to have made them even more awesome giving their attack the giant front-line it always lacked. In a first place showdown Riffraff worked the ball with precisionas they shut our formerly undefeated Library HI 15-8,15-10,15-11 to take over first place. Merc Bouman, John Wilsey and Bob Jackson starred for the victors with excellent blocking, spiking and serving. Dexter Faunce and Alan Thomas played exceptionally well for the Library. Riffraff then bumped Axelsson and Johnson 1513, 15-8, 15-9, in their next outing. Ernie Troiano, Ed Zebrowski and Chuck Matthews lead a tough A&J attack that gave Riffraff all that it wanted! The Disillusionytes bowed to Dave Picentine’s Stumblers II in three straight as Tom Roth and Hoe Holasz set tlie spikertj with amazing (fonsistency. Opposing Cape May’s Smoke Eaters, the Disillusionytes turned it around to win the match two games to one despite a

fine effort by Charlie Hickman and Barkie Lundholm of the Smoke Eaters. Charged up by Jim Coen and Shep Taylor the Disillusionytes snared games one and three, however, they dropped the middle skirmish 15-3 as the fire-up Firemen won their first game. Kona Sports shattered Kahn’s Ugly Muggers two games to one with a gutty comeback following a firstgame defeat. Mike Sciarra and Bob Hughes showed the way with their serving. PAK Associates left the C-View Inn in a state of shock after defeating them rather convincingly with an unstoppable front-line attack and consistent serving. Major reasons for the outcome were the spiking and setting of P&K's Albert Cohen, Jode Heathcoate, Dave Matageise and Dennis Kelly and the CView’s ineffective serving. PAK came out smoking with a balanced offense to* win games one and two identically 15-6. Terry Brown's serving and Bill Bezaire's net play brought the C-View from a 9-14 deficit to 16-14 salvaging victory in the finals.
