Cape Street Hockey League Sign-Ups Set
One of the hardest things for a fisherman to admit Is that the season ts coming to a doae. Diehard anglers from all over converged on the Rips the weekend before lhanksgtving for a try at those elusive stripers that have been showing in this turbulent place for the
past two weeks.
On Ron Tompkins boat, the "Ron Ell", Bob Hertzog and Frank Hineline hooked into a dog shark. After about ten drifts through the shallows moved offshore to McCries Shoal where Bob got a 1314 pound blueflsh. and Frank latched onto a 11-pound slammer, while Ron caughtacoupleof3& 4 pounders. In shore. John Mangarro and I, on John's boat "The Sea Mist", kept on drifting eels until the tufh-of the tide, and the only thing we caught was a long piece of rope off the
bottom.
"Dock" Lummls kept up the vigil with us on the "Fish N’ Fool", but the day proved fruitless for all of us except for the fellows who moved offshore. They wound up with quite a few
nice blues.
On the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, Norm Wiggenheim of Bridgeton hooked and landed a 53 pound linesider, and reports were that "Doc" Uimmts had gotten two stripers that same day. Ron Tompkins and I took the "Ron-EH" down to the rips on this day, and I got my first big striper ever, a beautiful 43 pounder. It's hard to describe the thrill of catching one of these big lineslders, but I can honestly say that I have never experienced a thrill In angling like It. Captain Ron instructed me as I was playing the fish, and he gaffed it at the host. I guess we'll be back there fishing some more this year after

over for 1979, there will jj blues and a
scattering of weakfish around for a week or so yet. But the outlook for cod and whiting is not exactly optimistic, due to the warm water that is still hanging around our shores. Down south the action has started in full force at the same time that our fishing is dropping off. Bill Tozour of Avalon was •telling me at the career center dedication that he has just returned from Jupiter, Florida, where he had gone fishing with Kenny Shockley. The pair had a very good catch on dolphin and sailfish-sails' have made an early appearance off the Florida coast. Bill said the sailfish were showing up in big numbers, and actually leaping out of the water
there.
Down on the Outer Banks of North Carolina there has been a terrific blitz on big blueflsh in the turf. Most of our boatmen have stored their boats, and the only fishing vessels left
