Rick Derringer hat been a rocker for most of his life. From his early days with Ohio’s McCoys, singing the classic "Hang On Sloopy," through productive stints with both Johnny and Edgar Winter, and now a solo career which grows stronger with each passing year. Rick Derringer has always been a force to be reckoned with. On his new album Rick Derringer has called in studio-wizard Todd Rundgren to lend a hand with production, and “Guitars And Women" (Blue Sky) is a sophisticated, yet exciting, album. Todd Rundgren has improved Derringer’s vocal arrangements, giving his music some added depth. Fortunately, this hasn't submerged Derringer's blistering guitar work. He's still one of the toughest^ guitarists around, and "Guitars And Women" shows him as the talented musician he is. Rick Derringer has been successful in two decades, and with the eighties' rapidly approaching, it’s a safe bet to say he’ll be around fora long time. As the more melodic British new wave bands, such as The Records, Joe Jackson, and The Police, find chart action in the States, It won’t surprise anyone to discover the music of Bram Tchaikovsky is starting to do well on our shores. His "Strange Man-Changed Man" (Rodar-Potydor) is a strong debut. With guitar breaks and melodies that have been inspired by The Byrds and a forceful, yet pleasing, voice. Bran Tchaikovsky should soon have a large following. I'm sure many of you have already heard "Driver’s Seat" by Sniff ‘n’ The Tears and are aware of its striking melody and soulful arrangement. Their album, "Fickle Heart" (Atlantic), is more of the same, as this British group writes moving tunes and sings them extremely well. Sniff ’n’ the Tears are off to a fine start, and I'm anxious to hear their follow-up album. Although the disco arrangements are often clumsy, fans of The Beach Boys should enjoy The Euclid Beach Band (Epic). Produced by the guiding light of The Raspberries, Eric Carmen, The Euclid Beach Band sing in spirited voices and write infectious
teen anthems, such as "Karen” and "Theri’s No Surf In Cleveland." If they had only avoided the out-of-place disco edge and stuck to the beach, this would have been the year’s finest debut. As it is, The Eculid Beach Band have come up with a promising first record. Italian Xmas Dinner SEA ISLE - A Christmas Dinner Party is planned for 6 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Sea Isle City Italian-American Club. JFK Blvd., Sea Isle.'
