(Goal. From Lad Week) Where are members of the Middle Twp High School football team of 1947 now? Big Milt Whitaker, from Dennisville was a big rawboned fanner who was strong as an ox. Although he had difficulty learning Coach Crist’s plays. He gave a good account of himself on the field and practically beat Wildwood single-handedly in one outstanding performance. He worked for Barrett Paving Co. and is still around the area. No account of this team would be complete without mention of the cheerleaders who gave such marvelous support to the team. star at MTHS who now is associated with UPS. Dot works in the merchandise field for Murphy’s Mart. Annie Menzel of Stone Harbor married Arden Hand and is associated with hime in running Fred’s Tavern. Two Garrison girls members of the cheerleading squad; Millie from Dias Creek and Barbara daughter of the proprietor of the store on Mechanic St. She is now a teacher in the Lower Cape May system. Nina Cooper from Swainton rounded out the squad. She had intentions of becoming a physical education teacher, but last heard of was in California. She occasionally gets back here for a visit. Nostalgia time has ended!
Sojourning in Orlanda Fla. with the senile citizens, the Old Sport missed out on the final game of the season with Delran. But, according to my impeccable source, it was the same old story. Our offense got the T.D.’s but mistakes by the pass defense gave up so many points that the outcome of the game was in doubt until the last minute. And, if it had gone two minutes longer. Delran probably would have pulled it out. The Old Sport places the blame right on the coaching. It was obvious in the first scrimmage with Vineland that" our pass defense was weak, even porous, and here in the final game it was still N.G Was the staff using the wrong personnel, or wrong type of coverage? Just asking. And the final record of 6-3 could have been 8-1 if the Panthers played up to their potential. What happened in the Hampionton and Ocean City games when they let the opposition pile up a big lead in the first half and then had played catch-up ball in the second half? But, don’t get me wrong. The Old Sport is'scolding Coach Exley and his staff for this weakness, but I do hand out the laurel for the offense they put on this season. Except for St. Joseph’s, the Panthers were never outclassed and

always fought back from lough odds. But. their aggressiveness cost them an average of a hundred yards a gafhe in penalties throughout the season. So, a Up of Old Sport’s battered- fedora to Phil Exley, Brian Tetley, Norm Smith, Paul York, John Kaighn and Bob Huff for an exciting and thrill-packed season and things could be even better next year with athletes coming up fropi that outstanding freshman class, with prospects like Richie “Rhino" Rhinesmith, Frank Brown, Tommy, “The Polish Rifle” Ghorski, and Matthews coming along things can’t help but look rosy for 1980.
