January 1,1900.

The new rules allow special medical and shelter deductions for households with persons who are aged 60 or older, or who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or disability payments under the Social

Security Act.

The new rulea allow elderly and disabled people to deduct the nwdical expenses which exceed >35 a month from their Income.

This does not expenses whlc]

reimbursed by insurance programs and the deduction does not apply to household members who are not elderiy or disabled. Elderly and disabled people now will be able to deduct the full amount of thetr shelter costs which exceed cnehalf of their adjusted income. Prior to this there was a fixed shelter deduction. Allowable shelter costs include rent and mortgage payments, utility bills, property taxes, and home

insurance.
