CAPE MAY continued to

pacesetter in Cape May’s Men’s Volleyball by narrowly escaping defeat against the Disillusionytes

in a rough match.

BUI Arnold apd Rick Perrante of Riffraff offset the fine play of Roy Hartie

and Shep Taylor.

The C-View Inn split a pair of matches versus two of the leagues finest ■•quads. The Library in

!*ijh Greg Shults spiking and Jack Costello setting outplayed the C-Vlew 13-15,

15-3,154

They followed this fine effort with three games to none sweep over the ■crappy ‘muggers’ from Kahn’s to hold onto second

place.

The C-Vlew rebounded nicely from their Library III setback to trip the Stum biers II twice in three games to take the match.

“Doghouse Days’’ were happy days for John Gash. He established this unique Sunday afternoon institution nearly 50 years ago, with the aid of several other Stone Harbor Yacht Chib “Dogcathers” and it is still thriving. Mr. Gash had a peat affection for the Yacht Club (he was accepted as a Junior member in 1914), and when he died (ironically, on the eve of the Dog House Regatta) at the age of 54, was its last surviving founder. He was its first rear commodore and served for many years on the Board of Trustees. Winifred Gubbins vacationed in Stone Harbor ‘ for many years and during one of these idyllic summers she met John Gash, and became his wife' in 1923. I have heard that marriages are made in heaven; there sure were a lot of them made in Stone Harbor. John’s father Thofnas Gash, was employed by the Rialey Brothers selling lots, and when John was a boy he worked for Miss Van Thuyne. She operated one iof the first grocery and

deliveries in a horse and wagon. Win says that Mr. Gash, Sr, was a staunch Democrat and he maneuvered Woodrow Wilson to come down from Trenton for the 96th Street bridge dedication in 1911. Win and John Gash retired to Stone Harbor 15 years ago and she has been a busy lady ever since, She served as treasurer for the Women’s Civic Chib for a number of years, has worked in the Burdette Tomlin Auxiliary, and Is a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church Women. Her happiest remem- ; brances are the good times she shared with her husband at the Yacht Club. The 50th Anniversary Album of the Yacht Club of ! Stone Harbor is dedicated to John Gash. The tribute , reads in part: “A rose to the living is more than sumptuous wreaths to the dead, if given before the hungering spirit Is fled." * It’s gratifying to know that (John was still among us .this summer, so he could -smell the roees.

— -oyre ■piked the Inn to victory. David Piacentine had his

deceptive serve scoring again for the Stumblers .especially during the third

Axelsson and Johnson 1715, 15-7, 3-15 and the Pilot Hotwe 15-5,154,154 before taking two of three from

Kona Sports.

Hector Heathcoate, and Dave Matogeiae carried

with unreturnable serving and eye-catching defense with some ac-

curate bumping.

BUI Garrison’s setting and Jim Riddle’s serving were effective weapons as A4J prevented a sweep by trouncing PAK 15-3 in the

I third skirmish. Mike Sciarra led Kona with senring es they likewise gave PMC tits by taking one game proving once again the league is becoming more of a challenge with (ewer and fewer puehovera each veer.
