St. Paul’s Parish Council Named STONE HARBOR - The new parish council at St. Pauls Roman Catholic Church was installed for the coming year recently. Mr. Frank D’Elia was named president. Mrs. Sara Brady, vice-president Mrs. Betty O’Toole, secretary and Mrs. Marguerite Klotzbucher. treasurer. Other members of the council include: Sandy ’ Meadowcroft. Marcella DeLaurentis. Betty White. Peg Grimes Lillian Dougherty. Vincent Perrella. and Bill Klotz bucher. Gifts of appreciation were awarded to outgoing officers. Ray DeLaurentis. Leonard llclbig and Margaret Baumann who served the past two years Others leaving council after two years include Eileen Connors. Rose Prentz and Marie Holbig Over .10 requests were made to remember a loved one at Christmas by purchasing a poinsettia through the church to be placed on the altar in their name. The plants will be added to the Christmas decorations which the Council has put up inside the church.

This Stone Harbor institution was organized as Sturdy Building and Loan in June. 1922. and R M Simpson whs its first president. In July. 1941, it became Sturdy SAL. In 1943. the same year that FD1C was established, the move was made to its present site at 94th Street and Third Avenue. Before that lime the association transacted business from various rented spaces in town. Sturdy Savings ami I/tan Association vius the first financial institution in Cape May County to receive FSLIC accounts Mr Ellis A Mixner told me (hat the greatest pleasure in his career tuts come from being a part of an organization that has encouraged local thrift, and that he is proud of Slrudy’s service to the area in enabling thousands of people to own tlieir own homes Mr. Mixner was president of this institution for 15. mis served on the Board of Directors since 1919. ami is now Chairman. A native of Cape May County.. Mr. Mixner has lived in Stone Harbor since 1940. when he married Dorothy Herbert, a local lady. Two of their children. Susan Stanford and Steven, still reside here. Frank. Son Number 1^ is n Commander in the U S. Navy and is stationed in (.•harleston.S.C.

The community sustained a great loss with the death of Marshall Fisher on November 2Wh: he was the oldest living native serving on the Board of Directors of Sturdy Savings and Loan Association. This organization has made groat strides since its inception. The building that was a converted bakery was demolished in 1975 and the present impressive, modern structure, was erected.
