By Bill Shrrman Just as the mighty Mississippi River is fed by tiny tributaries which have their source in Minnesota, so is the Middle Township High Sctiool Football -program fed by the midget football teams of Middle Township. Under the 1 capable leadership of Walt Oliver whose regular job is sergeant in charge of detectives for Middle Township, the program takes youngsters eight to 12 years of age, teaches the basics of football, matches them up in size and furnishes a regular schedule of games. Playing on the best football field in South Jersey. Memorial Field, so ably cared for by Clarence Dawes and his assistant Barry Wilke, outfitted from he^d to toe with the best equipment that money can buy. furnished by the Middle Township Recreation Department, under the guidance of Gree Arnold. Recreation Director, the boys are playing football under the best of conditions. Regular officials see to it that they play by the rules The league is countywide, embracing teams from Upper Township. Middle. Lower, Wildwood. Cape May. Ocean City. Avalon and Sea Isle City Middle Township sponsors three teams: the Knights

and in the midget division the^nights and Bobcats in the Peewee division. manager, and Bud Dunham. Dad’s Place Marina in Grassy Sound. Men who coach midget football are dedicated men. They have fulltime jobs but give up their evenings and Sundays to see that the youngsters get the proper instruction and training in their youthful days. And. at the banquet held at the end of the season, a well kept secret was revealed Walt Oliver and his staff of coaches for the midget Knights announced they are retiring from active coaching, but they will never give up their ties to the team completely/ Like a thoroughbred horse, they will miss the smell of the track and return now and then to the scene of their activity. Walt Oliver has a history of 20 years coaching midget football. His assistant coach Tom Henry also has been at it 20 years. Bill Zeiss has a record of 10 years coaching. Men with records and experience like theirs will be replaced but their shoes will never be completely filled by their replacements The best to you. Walt. Tom and Bill and may you graze contentedly in the pastures of retirement. Taking over thfc midget Knights will be Billy Adams, an old hand at this game of football. Pound for pound. Billy can hold his own with any of the giants Assisting him will be Wall (Don’t Call Me Butch > Oliver. Jr Bill Faulsey will also be assisting as well as Randy (Roughousei Goodman. The Bobcats will be coached by Bob Seddon and he will be aided by Bob Dempsey, assisted by John Supplee and Herb Mossbrooks The Peewee Knights will be coached by Bob Hentges assisted by John Jones. May the dedication of these men to the youth of our community continue to be heartfelt and may the football players reap the benefit of their background' and experience
