Racquet Tourney Results

COURT HOUSE - Final results of the Whitebricr Holiday Tournament at Jersey Cape Racquet Club last weekend were announced by the Club this week. In the men’s "B" singles, Bob Furey moved to the finals after a hard fought, three set match with Jack Bowman. Herk Wetherill also came into the final round after a tough match against Scott Smith. In Sunday's final, Wetherill defeated Furey. 4-6, 7-5, 61. In the men’s "A" event, Mike Mullen won over Don Reich, 6-2, 6-3. The men’s doubles title was won by Tom Viarelli and Hal Tendler in another three set match (7-5, 3-6, 6-1) over Rich Garwood and Stan Rice. In the ladies' dpubles events, the teams oTJackie Smith-CahaJ Donjfvan and Carol YarWrtugh Roni Zane advanced from round robin play to the Sunday finals. In yet another three set match, the team of Smith-Donovan defeated Yarborough-Zane, 7-6, 6-2, 6-3. Last, but not least, in our mixed doubles event, there was a 6-4, 6-2, 6-1 win by Lee Jones and Carol Donovan over Bill Wetherill and Karen Wetherill.

Optimists Play Santa Claus COURT .HOUSE - The Optimist Club recently was afforded the opportunity to play Santa Claus for the Classified Resource Room Students of Elementary Schools ml and #3 in the First Baptist Church in Cape May Court House. Gifts were given to all the children and later refreshments were en joyed. Teachers who helped were Ms Alice Doyle, Ms Margaret Lewis (School i»l) and Ms Anne M itagiese(School 03). Phe Middle Optimist Club will sponsor bingo at the Avalon Community Center starting on Sunday, Jan. 31 at7:30p m.

Avalon Trash Pickups ’ "Change AVALON - Follow^* action taken January 2 by Borough Council, days of trash removal will change in Avalon.
