‘Generally Good’ 1980 Seen For Area Housing

STONE HARBOR - More than 19.5 million was loaned to area borrowers in 1979 by Sturdy Savings and Loan, according to S&L president John Armour, who predicts 1980 will be a "generally good year" for the housing industry. In his annual year-end statement. Mr. Armour said the association's commitment to the area housing market continued to be strong in spite of savings gains falling short of 1978's total. Gains last year totaled $2.6 million, with savings deposits now totaling over $49.8 million — an all-time high. A record $3.3 million in interest was paid to depositors. Mr. Armour noted the institution helped nearly 251 citizens purchase homes in the area last year.
