Andy Grace of Court House and I went over to Atlantic City on Sunday to see the 1900 Boat Show in Convention Hall and I must say right here that I think it was the biggest and best boat show I've seen in 10 years. It outclassed Philadelphia and New

York shows, and plans now are to bring it back for nine days next year The first thing that met our eyes as we entered were the 35 foot Cigarette racers that looked so expensive that we were afraid to ask the price. I have never seen such an impressive array of outboards. inboards, yachts, sailing yachts, sport fishermen, and trailers in all my time of going to these shows. CAPE ISLAND Marina was showing the beautiful Egg Harbor "33” and the 40 ft. Sport Fisherman, and they had sold one "33" during the show. Pharo s Yacht Basin was displaying the new "Sea Ox" boats. (We had first seen these boats down in Hatteras. and I believe they will be a real winner up here.) Stone Harbor Marina was showing the ever popular Bertram models and several other makes. But as far as I was concerned, the boat that took my eye was the Black Fin "24" displayed by Deschamps Boat Yard They also had brochures available on the new Blackfin "32” Sport Fisherman, and I’m sure this new offshore boat is going to give all the popular models competition in 1980. THE OCEAN 40 boats built by. Jack Leek were very beautiful as were some of the new Trawler fibreglass designs. Some of these boats are in range of the average buyer while a lot of them belong in the class fthat J.P. Morgan talked about when he said: "When you have to ask the

price, you shouldn't buy it.” I also liked the new Mako 23 - she looks like a good all-weather boat, but there arc a couple of walk around models that take over where the center consoles leave off. and they took my fancy too. It’s really not fair for me to keep on boats, because there were so many beautiful models to choose from that you would just have had to have visited the show to really appreciate them. I DID FIND one thing that I know is for my boat, and it’s the first time I’ve seen this product at a show. It’s the new Sea Fire Automatic fire extinguishing system that mounts very easily above your motor and automatically sprays a fire with Halon vapor. This extinguisher has a nozzle that looks like the overhead automatic sprinkler devices you sec everywhere The Halon vapor extinguishes the

flame while you or I would be reaching for a C02 extinguisher to put out the fire. There's nothing worse than a fire on the water, and this new device is the best preventative for that which IVe ever seen. The representative said that most marinas would be able to supply this new item, but in case they don't have it, you can write to Sea‘Fire Extinguisher Products. 718 Debelins Ave . Baltimore. MD 21205. and they will direct you to a dealer. It is very economical in price, and doesn’t lose its charge like so many of our extinguishers today Hiere were many other exhibitors at the show other than boats Fine rain gear was displayed along with t-shirts and caps, and Joe Trappy of Penn Reels, was there demonstrating the new Penn Fathom Master, which looks like a real good fishing tool JThere were also three financing sources at the show with 10 year plans and easy terms, hut I don't i think I'll comment any further on that. The 1980 Atlantic City Board Show was definitely a winner. I hope we'll have many more of them
