Shoplifting Relief Seen In Civil Law TRENTON - Asscm blyman James’Hurley has introduced a bill providing a civil penalty for shoplifting by adults and making parents liable to be sued for the shoplifting of their children Hurley said the bill was inspired by pleas from merchants for aid in curbing what he noted was one of the costliest and fastest-rising crimes in this country It provides penalties as high as $1,000 for convicted adults In the case of convicted juvenile, the parents would be liable for the retail value of the goods up to $500 plus an additional penalty of between $!00and0200 Conviction under the *criminal%aw wouldn’t be necessary for a suit for damages brought by a merchant with a proveable loss by shoplifting

Childbirth Classes Set COURT HOUSE - The Childbirth and Parent Education Association is sponsoring preparation-for-childbirth classes for women in their sixth month of pregnancy. Classes will begin March 5 at Burdette Tomlin Hospital and will be 7:30 to 10:30 one night a week for eight weeks. Topics to be covered during the prenatal classes include factual knowledge of pregnancy, childbirth, breast and bottle feeding, relaxation and breathing techniques for childbirth. Five parenting classes will be held after the delivery of the child. For more information and class registration, call 465-4829. The next series of classes will begin April 11.

2 Charged In Holdup Of Mkt. WILDWOOD - Hughes Market, Rio Grande and New Jersey Aves., was held up around 10:45 Monday night by two masked bandits. Two Villas men were later apprehended. Charged with armed robbery were: Kenneth A. Greene of the 200 block of Langs Ave., and Kevin P. Deller of the 100 block of Village Rd. Police said both men are in their 20’s. According to authorities, two men wearing ski masks and wielding a shotgun took a large amount of cash from Robert Hughes, who was tending the store. The cash and shotgun were later recovered. Initial police reports late Monday night had authorities throughout the southern end of Cape May County on the lookout for two men in. a vehicle with two sawed-off shotguns and a cash drawer. According to unconfirmed repyorts Tuesday, the George Reading drawbridge was raised to prevent the bandits from escaping, and the two suspects were later arrested in Wildwood Crest. The investigation was handled by: Lt. Ralph Sheets and Del. Robert Davenport of the Wildwood Police Department, along with Sgt. Joseph Bada and Ptl. Thomas dePaul of the Crest PD.
