— Timely Gardening Hints — 1. Study garden catalogs, making up plant and seed lists and ordering early to get discounts and choice varieties ; 2. Start a gardening diary and scrapbook; 3. Have your soil tested now (kits are available at 14 each) so you , ll know how much lime and fertiliser to applv to your lawn and garden this spring; 4. Now is a good time to apply ground limestone to vour lawn; use 25 lbs. to each 1,000 sq. ft.; 5. If frost action has pushed herbaceious perennial roots out of the soil, press them back for protection from cold, drying wind; 6. Continue to feed the birds.

Spring Gardening
(From Page I)
WITH SPRING just around the comer, it’s time to study the garden catalogs and order seed for - your vegetable garden Every good gardener would like to have his garden do two things: (1) be attractive and (2) produce good, high quality vegetables. But this doesn't
always happen.
Plant diseases can cause trouble. But, you can do i something ^bout this loss by selecting diseaseresistant varieties when you purchase your garden seeds. Such varieties are available for a number of vegetable crops, and seed catalogs usually state which are diseaseresistant. So check the descriptions in your seed catalogs well. These
disease resistant seeds can be one way to help boost production in your garden.
