STVMARY’S. from a post card postmarked 1914.

Oldest fthurch on Seven-Mile Beach JNE HARBOR — St. Mary’s days; stark, without even the tinie

STONE HARBOR - St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. 95th St. and Third Ave.. is the oldest church in Stone Harbor (and probably in all of Seven-Mile Beach). It was dedicated on July 2. 1911, by Bishop Suffragan Garland, and was then known as

St. Mary's-by-the-Sea.

The church was enlarged in 1931, thanks to the generosity of Anne L. Wilmerton, and loans from the diocese of New Jersey enabled the members to add a rectory and

a parish hall.

In enlarging the church, the builders faithfully followed the original architecture; in fact, the 95th St. Facade was taken down and re-erected to enclose the new worship area. The hall and the rectory also preserve the original style. Now sheltered by tall pines and other trees, and adorned by smaller planLs and bushes, St. Mary’s presents a picture quite different from the way it looked in its early

days; stark, without even the tiniest shrub or vine for company, as shown in a photo

postcard of that period.

The church’s rector is the Rev. Wesley H. Martin, who assumed his functions here a month ago. Tomorrow. Thursday. Father Martin will celebrate Holy Communion and offer prayers of healing at 10 a.m., and conduct a Lenten service at 7:30 p.m. The Episcopal Church Women will gather for their monthly meeting at noon. Sunday’s services will be Holy Communion at 8 a.m. and Morning Prayer, with sermon andLchoir, at 10 a.m. The Sunday School children will attend class

during the 10a.m. service.

Refreshments are served after each of

the Sunday services.

Father Martin holds a Morning Prayer service at 8:45 a.m. and office hours from 9 to noon daily Tuesday through Saturday.

Phone is 368-5922.

Congregation to Aid in Sermon N. WILDWOOD - The congregation will be the source of the sermon during the 11 a.m. service Sunday at Central Bible Church as the pastor draws

upon the members' research from their homework to give an.exposition from several passages in Philippians 4. The church offers five home Bible studies. Their times and locations are . available by calling the . church at 522-5917.

Social Night Tues. VILLAS — Refreshments and prizes for all are the feature during the 7:30 Social Night March 11 at St. Barnabas Parish House, 13 W. Bates Ave.. sponsored by the Episcopal Church Women.
