By Al Campbell DIAMOND BE^CH - Similar to the activity accompanying the ancient cry of “New lamps for old” was an all-day session at the Holiday Inn here on Saturday Three representatives from a firm named Silver and Cold Connection were on hand to trade old gold and silver for current top-dollar prices The Herald and Ijintern paid a visit to the suite i Room 124) and talked with the Metal buyers, under police guard, who were •armed” with acids and scales to detect precioas from base metal. The representatives agreed to a story, but insisted on no photographs of their faces. And they wouldn't give their names since they feared robberies at their homes if disclosed. A Lower Township patrolman was on duty all day in the "Gold Coast' motel for protection. How do you go about selling precious metals? ACCORDING TO the dealer, he would first ascertain if the metal was indeed real. Some may look like real gold or silver, once the metal was
determined to be real, it would be weighed. But an acid test is the only real way of determing this for certain. Weight is in Troy ounces, with 12ounces to the pound. Most people would consider themselves getting cheated if they measured an item on a bathroom scale, which weighs in English measurement. All sales are done vid cash, no checks are written. "After all, would you accept a check from somebody in a rriotel room?" the dealer pointed out. Items mainly sold arc coins, rings, watches, (with mechanisms removed). Jewelers must remove diamonds or other gems, since this dealer is interested only in the metal. Most of the clientele are satisfied with their deals, if they aren't, they're under no pressure to accept. TRENTON - 'The current crow season in New Jersey remains open until March 31. and the state Division of Fish. Game. and Wildlife reminds sportsmen that crows may be hunted only on Monday. Thursday. Friday, and Saturday According to the division, crows are excellent for
gold. Some people bring religious items stamped with their karat weight. Under acid test we have proved many* of these religious items to be nothing more than white* metal with a plating," said the dealer. What does Silver and Gold Connections do with its metal? “We sell it to an international refiner. Most major cities have one of these refiners. Philadelphia, New York, down in Virginia and even in Mexico. Imagine frying to get gold across the Mexican border," said the dealer. The nameless dealers did say they deal mainly in three stores in the Montgomery and Oxford Valley Malls outside of Philadelphia and in Binghamton, N.Y. But last weekend they were in Lower Town-ship-giving new meaning to the nickname for the Wildwood Crest - Diamond Beach beachport: the Gold Coast.
eating when prepared as chicken in soups or stews, stuffed and roasted, or fried. Feathers from crows are useful for fly tieing. The division suggested that hunters contact farmers who may be having problems with crows; the sportsmen could help the farmer and in turn have a place to hunt.
Sentenced In Beach ‘
Murder
COURT HOUSE - A 21-year-old Norristown, Pa., man was sentenced to at least 23 years in prison Monday for the murder of a father of nine and attempted rape of his female companion on the beach at a Diamond Beach last July
20.

He pleaded guilty to the attempted rape. He codld be eligible for parole in seven years. Pittman was charged with beating Charles Young, 43, over the head with a piece of wood while he was on the beach with a 39-year-old companion. Pittman didn’t know either victim, and said he was high on drugs and alcohol at the time.
Williams: IRS Should Pay Court Fees WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Harrison A. Williams Jr. (D-NJ) recently announced he will lend his support to a legislative effort to make it possible for taxpayers who win court cases against the Internal Revenue Service to receive reimbursement for court costs and attorney fees. As it now stands, the New Jersey Democrat said, a citizen who successfully sues the IRS or wins a case brought by the federal government, frequently faces court costs and legal fees which amount to more than the total tax payment in dispute. Federal law now prohibits citizens from receiving reimbursement, even if they win their cases. "This measure seems sensible and entirely equitable." Williams said. "The cost of justice in our tax system must not be beyond the reach of any taxpayer who feels he or she has been unfairly treated by the government," Williams said. "We have documented cases of citizens with reasonable complaints about the IRS refusing to take the matter to court because the expense would be prohibitive. "If someone has a good case against the IRS. and he or she can prove it. then he or she deserves to be reimbursed for the costs of bringing equity and justice to our tax system." the Senator said. Williams said that many taxpayers frequently feel at a disadvantage when dealing with the IRS but fail to obtain outside legal counsel because of the expense He also noted that the provision allowing reimbursement for court costs and legal fees only if the private citizen wins the case "will make it possible for the IRS to perform its statutory duties without nuisance suits and will encourage the agency to take legal action against an individual only if the action is completely warranted
