SOUNDINGS
(From Page 18)
any of you have noticed the extremely low and high tides we've had this past week due to the moon being so close to the Earth. On Saturday afternoon Norm Switzler, Dave Bepici, Don Dodson, and I crossed over the Great Bay Bridge on the parkway, and the whole center of the channel was a
Ws all remarked we had never seen this sight before as we were all of the opinion that there was” eight ft. of water under the center of this bridge. Then? is also another theory on this very low tide, which I heard on television that night. THEY SAY that the Delaware River basin is losing quite a bit of water this year due to Ihe mildness of the winter, and the scarcity of ice floes, and that salt water infiltration is a possibility the whole length of the river. In fact, some experts are predicting a drought this season. I got so curious about these low tides, when I got
home I hopped in my TBird and rode over to the Oc«n Drive between Stone Harbor and Wildwood with my camera and took a picture of Hereford Inlet. It honestly looked like one big mud flat - and I’ll be darned if I could find an opening big enough to take
a boat out.
NOW BEFORE I forget it, I do have a fishing report on the Bay "Kandy” Laudf man has been taking some nice stripers in his nets there, and I’ve also heard that Fred-Layton Jr. has been having the same Jcind of luck up around
Bidwells Ditch.
After the stripers, there should be bunker, weakfish and other fish appearing in these stake nets - and that usually marks the start of a fishing season. So get
ready!
Next week I'll have a report on the Cape May County llatteras Anglers, and the plans of our local anglers as they try to get a group together to go after channel bass on the outer >ank of North Carolina.
