Can you count the ways that the Women’s Civic Clid) of Stone Harbor has contributed to the progress of our community? Since its foundin in 1913, this organization has worked untiringly to make Stone Harbor “The Seashbre At Its Best - Construction of pavilions on the beach, planting of trees and flowers in the borough, cultural and recreational events that appeal to youth and adults; these are some of the projects the ladies have undertaken. They give financinal help to the Rescue Squad, Wetlands Institute, Helen Diller Home, Volunteer Fire Company and the Museum, establisned a scholarship fund for students, held teenage dances in the summer, and sponsored the Little Miss Stone Harbor Coronation. WHEN A DOZEN gals (membership is now 162) decided to organize 67 years ago, Mayor Risley asked them to select colors and a flower for the new borough. Green and gold and the hydrangeas were chosen and the Women’s Civic Club will again promote the Hydrangea Festival and sell plants this spring, with Mrs. Philip Mlxtell in charge. The Annual Antique Show comes along in July, and Mrs. William Kelton is proud to announce that 26 dealers will participate this time—double the number

when the show was initiated 31 years ago. August will find Mm. James Wood. Mrs. Rosalind Blair and Mrs. Florence Fokher busy on the Annual Local Art Show. CLUB PRESIDENT Mrs. Gerald Stump showed me some delightful pictures and articles depicting the history of the club, including a narrative poem penned for the Silver Anniversary by Mrs. Jesse Ludlan (Mrs. Stephen Meader). Our community was saddened by the death of Mrs. Meader in

February.

Mrs. Stump tells me that many of the past presidents of the club are still with us: Mrs. Alexander MacKerell, Mrs. John Bucher, Mrs. Robert Winterbottom, Mrs. Thomas Monte, Mrs James Bush, Mrs fUmald Norton and Mrs. Robert Wilson. Mrs. Stump’s fellow officers are Mrs. Harry Wear, Mrs. John Gontar, Mrs. George Spence, Mrs. Frank Smith and Mrs. Calvin Wlngert. Spring Is Here! Pick up your hydrangeas from the Women’s Civic Club.
