news on our Jersey Cape I called Capt^ > ‘HI" Thompson (April 10). and.he told me that he had a party out today on the Big Jim II Southeast of FA buoy, and even though there were only five anglers aboard they all had approximately 20 Boston mackerel apiece. “Hi:LAai(T there was a big ground swell, and it made staying on the fish difficult The day before, in spite of the rough weather, the Big Jim II had a good catch at McCries shoal Jack Osborne called and said he was going out after those Bostons. If the water temperature rises above the 42 degree that it s been these last two days, they should cAtch plenty of, mackerel . NOW. ON TO the Bay scene. "Randy" Laudeman has been taking a lot of shad in his nets and today he came back with a 10pound weakfish — most of the netters have been picking up weakfish in small quantities and that’s good news for our upcoming tiderunner season Our Jersey Cape is going to have several drum contests this year; Notable among them is the Lower Township Optimist Club contest on May 24, run by Jim Wallace of Cape May and assisted by Joe Kodia of Rio Grande. ONE LAST ITEM I wrote a column on the Olympics and I’ve received a reply from Helen Dubuar, 123 Arbor Rd. that goes like this. “This refers to your Feb. 27 column saying, The one big let-down was that of Tye and Randy. So far, that has been the only flaw In the near perfect thow. "We all sympathize with Tye and his partner, but we are shamed by this disgrace — (Psalm 35:26: Let them be ashamed who rejoice at my hurt) — Arc not the Olympic Medals tarnished by the possibility that some might have gone fbut didn’t I to Taiwanese? “For when the South Koreans were shunted out of the formal ping pong contests, they performed separately and experts judged them superior point
by point. "These gentle Taiwanese came to the Olympics prepared and eager They endured the insults and departed. In the hearts of all righteous people they are the thoroughbred and heroic ones. "Long live, the noble Taiwanese who in our hearts wear the laurel crowns of dignity, victory and glory!" » ANSWER: YES. Helen. | agree that this was a tarnished spectacle, but let’s put the blame where it belongs: The Olympic committee, in my opinion, was narrow minded and should have let them compete. This is the same committee that would send our athletes to the Moscow summer games in spite of President Carter s proclamation. They seem to have no regard for the safety of our boys here either Could it be that they are unpatriotic and narrow minded as well? Bird Tours Due CAPE MAY POINT - Guided spring birding Inure begin 8:30 a m May 3-10 at Ihe Slate Park here sponsored by the NJ Audubon Society.
