Center Band will become active once again. The band (• maintained throughout the winter primarily to provide music at recruit graduations and is made up of less than a dozen ■ permanent party musicians'' But as the warm weather arrives and the band’s activities in the Atlantic Coast area increase, this nucleus is supplemented each week by neto recruits. The makeup of the band changes weekly as recruits graduate and go to their duty stationa and are replaced by newly-arriving recruits. This year the hand's activities will begin 18 May when they will travel to Newark, Del., for a Memorial Day Parade. Local residents will get a chance to hear them at Cape May’s Memofial Day Parade as well as at the Sunset Parades scheduled for this summer. The band will also offer concerts at the Victorian Bandstand in Cape May on July 5 and August 30. On August 24, they will offer tfteir annual concert at the Cape May County Park. DURING GRADUATION ceremonies 18 April, Senior Chief Petty Officer Stanley Joseph Klimovitz was awarded his second Coast Guard Achievement medal, receiving a gold star in lieu of a second medal Chief •Klim’' was cited for his superior accomplishments in the Recruit Personnel Office from June 1977 to April
1980.
During this period he supervised the inprocessing and outprocessing of more than 12.000 recruit records, requiring him to sign his name more than 70,000 times! The award was made by Capt. Leo V. Donohoe. Commanding Officer of TRACEN, before assemblage of the Chief's family and co-workers. Part of this column over the next several weeks will be devoted to the reporting of the phenomenal building program that, is being undertaken by the Coast Guard in Cape May. During fiscal years 79, *80 and *81, almost $10 million will be spent on new construction projects and on the remodeling of older
structures.
Some of these contracts have already been awarded and the others will be 1st in the coming months. These projects'will have a positive economic effect on the county, for. even though all contracts may not be made to local ^ Doug Griffin's Accessories Tec PINE HOME FURNISHINGS LAST FUSS IN SPRUS SALE 26 to 30% Off All Furniture 10% Off All Accessories | MW HUFES > IMMS IT MM MIFFIE | ~ tSffc & OCIAN Oft., AVALON 907-4067
for the heating of hot water. The 10 buildings will be set at varying angles on the property for eye ap-
pejil.
In addition to these units, one ' senior officer's quarters < is being built closer to the Base on Delaware Ave., facing the harbor. This will be a three-bedroom single house, with occupancy expected by early fall. Future < housing plans, beyond those already begun, call for t the construction of nine more units on the half lot just east of the present construction and possibly withiri five years - the construction of 45 more units on the land where the sub-standard housing still exists.
