As the days get steadily warmer and longer, not only does it become obvious summer i* approaching, but, also, that a hew Beach Boy* album will be released This year s model. "K The Summer Alive caribou) should re-establish The Beach Boys as a charttopping group, as it ju*t might be their finest moment since they issued their classic “Pet Sounds” over a decade ago. That’s not to infer the Beach Boys haven't had their brilliant moments since "Pet Sounds." but each long player has had its ups-and downs. Always enough to please a Beach Boys fanatic, but, not enough to make a dent on

the charts.

•KEEPIN' THE’Summer Alive" is a loose, fun record. As it should be, the harmonies pre kept in the fore, and the melodies, especially “Some Of Your Love." "Sunshine," and the title track, are infectious without being trite. Producer Bruce Johnston has kept the backing tracks full, but not lush and all in all, he seems to have adjusted nicely to filling Brian Wilson's shoes as

producer

In turn, Brian is writing and singing better than ever. Maybe having some of the pressure off him will allow Brian Wilson to fully develop as a songwriter.

THE BEACH BOYS might be nearing middleage. but their music is still fre#h ^nd powerful. "Keepin' The Summer Alive" is an enjoyable experience and one I feel all radio listeners will be sharing in the coming months. They’ve never left, but arc too often taken for granted This record is going to be one of the musical high spots of 1900. The Cure is a fairly new British band who seems to , be exploring the same minimalist ground The Fall and Gang of Four are building reputations on. What sets The Cure apart W the fact their debut album "Boys Don’t Cry” (PVC),

shows they knoy how to write decent melbdies. The sparseness in sound is sometimes annoying, but The Cure should find a cult following on our shores without any trouble. JOHNNY WINTER never wanted to be a rock and roll star, and when he found he’d become one, he cracked under the pressure. Now, for the past couple of albums, h^’s established himself as the bluesman he always wanted to be. "Raisin’ Cain" (Blue Sky) is a solid, rocking blues album, with Winter’s driving guitar and growling vocals working well with his ertpiisite choiceoi material. The biues. are alive and well, and so is Johnny
