COURT HOUSE - A large turnout witneued the formal dedication of the Cape May County Veteran’s Cemetery on Sunday at the Crest Haven

Complex.

Maeter of Cermonie* Freeholder ‘Gerald Thornton introduced the celebrities, each of whom gave a brief speech after the Invocation by Chaplain Joseph H. Prates of the U.S. Coast Guard Training

Center.

Freeholder Director Anthony Catanoso gave the welcoming address, followed by Dept. ViceCmdr Howard Cole of the American Legion, State Cm dr. Thomas C. Blesdell of the VFW; Joseph Koury, State fmdr, World War I Barracks; Robert Palmguard County Cmdr. VFW Marshall Ted Behr, Cape May County Adjutant, American Legion; Charles Quinn, Cmdr. Disabled American Veterans Chapter 44 Lester Harris Past Dept. Cmdr, American Legion, and James C. Brooker, chairman Cape May County Park Commission. The Flag Raising was led by Carlyle Dennis, Cape May County Service Officer of the American Legion. The National Anthem was played by the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center Band under the direction of Don Ethridge. A salute of the NJ ROTC unit of Middle Township High School, and taps was

played by a bugler.

Wreaths were presented by members of the Veteran’s Cemetery Advisory Board; Joseph La Rosa, American Legion; Joseph Koury, World War I Barracks, George P.A. Porter, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Leonard Witchey Disabled American War Veterans. After the playing of God Bless America by the Coast Guard Band, the flay was run up to full staff.by the Cub Scoutk of Webelo Pack 59, Rio Grande, New. Jersey and the benediction was given by Chaplain

An ironic twist was lent to the ceremonies by the revelation that a member of Cape May County Veterans Cemetery Advisory Board had died last week and was the first veteran to be buried in the cemetery. He was Andrew Demyan. Freeholder Thornton gave profuse thanks to everyone instrumental in bringing the idea of a county veteran’s cemetery to fruition; especially Myrtle Hevtner, County Veterans Service Officer and Supervisor of Veterans Interment; The Cape May County Park Commission under the direction of Leon Fulginiti;; Vie Police,
