tivities of the applicants. Each applicant was also personally interviewed by the Committee. The entire Coast Guard community wishes Donna Stepherson the best of luck during her college years.
DURING THE first outdoor graduation cereiftohy of the year, Cpt. Lee V. Donohue was awarded his second Meritorious Service Medal. A gold star in lieu of the second medal was presented to him by Vice Adm. R.H. Scarborough, Vice Commandant of the Coast Guard. Captain Donohoe was awarded the medal for his complete dedication to the Coast Guard during the period of July S978 to January 1980 while serving as Commanding Officer of the Training Center. More than 7,000 recruits received their basic training during
this period. THE CITATION accompanying the award praised Captain Donohoe for demonstrating excellent professional ability and for improving the image of the Coast Guard in the local area by developing a good personal rapport with the community. During the period cited. Captain Donohoe was responsible for the planning stage of the largest construction project, ever undertaken at theTR^CEN. He promoted the establishment of a Day Care Center for dependent children on the base and
made it possible for the * ’ Atlantic- City Community - ’ College to use the facilities . / on the base for, local
classes.

THE COAST. GUARD community is proud of two exceptional young people who have distinguished thtnwelves this past month in college graduations Barbara Kathryn Hathaway, daughter of Cpt. (Ret) and Mrs. Charles Hathaway of West St., Cape May, graduated Cum Laude on May 2S from Mt. Holyoke College In South Hadley, Mass. She was a Political Science major. During her years at Mb, Holyoke, Miss Hathaway wrote for the college paper, was active with the Massachusetts PIHG and did a legislative internship with Common Cause in Washington. Miss Hathaway will be continuing bet 1 education as a law student at George Washington University; THE OTHER young woman of distinction is Detforah Ann Coen, daughter of Cmdr and Mn. James Coen of Pennsylvania Ave., Cape May, who received her B.A. from Simmons College in Boston, Mass. Miss Coen carried a dual major while in college, Sociology and Human Services. She was the Social Activities Chairwoman and worked as the Student Assistant to the Director of Admissions. She served an internship with Action for Children’s Television (ACT) and was Military Liaison to the Red Cross. The Cape May County area will be enriched by another member of the Coast Guard family as Miss Coen intends to reside here, and will work for the Citizens United Banl in West Cape May. ••• REMEMBER that the first Sunset Parade of the season will be held at the TRACEN on June 5 beginning 30 minutes before sunset. The following day, June 6, at 2:30, the graduation speaker and parade reviewing officer will be Rear Adm. Clifford Dewolf, Chief Counsel of the Coast Guard. Both of these events are opgn to the public. Volunteer OK'd ERMA — Township Committee May 23 approved the appointment of Fred G. Lawrence as a member of the local Volunteer Fire Company.
