shirts and h THE "REGIMENTAL RUNNERS." as they call themselves, were running for a cause. They entered the 5Mile Run to help raise money for a new fire truck for the local volunteer fire company. Lt.fj.g.) Don Trone, the training center's Second Battalion officer, chose recruit company Lima-107 to be the "runaways." The group trained for six weeks for the event, improving their running skills and physical fitness in the process. THESE WERE NO ORDINARY joggers, and they demonstrated their Coast Guard spirit by clapping hands and singing throughout the 45-minute run. No loneliness for these long-distance runners — they ran in formation and crossed the finish line still in rank and file. Training officer Cmdr. Raymond Bland, physical fitness Instructor Seaman Dawn Parker, and Lt.tj.g.) Trone were on hand to support the run with the recruits. Not one of the Regimental Runners actually "took to the hills" during their brief excursion to the Point, gut, as one recruit noted, they were granted "eyeball liberty” — and were free to observe several attractive runners who joined them in the Race. The council approved the falconry season which will be regulated by the division and the U.S. F'ish and Wildlife Service. The council also approved the second-deer tag for the fall how season and the six-day season. This will allow a person who has legally taken and reported a deer to procure a second permit or tag and then continue to hunt and take a second deer during the respective season. THE COUNCIL didn’t approve the proposed otter season. The division pointed out that, contrary to rumors that had circulated before the hearing, this year’s proposed code didn’t contain any provisions pertaining to Sunday hunting, permitting 14-year okis to hunt with muzzle-
loading rifles, a swan season, nr a mourning dove
season.
