In the past several years three persons, two from Avalon and one from Sea Isle, have undergone open heart surgery; many others have received help and evaluation for heart and asthmatic conditions "Your support has made all this possible. Remember Deborah serves everyone regardless of race, religion or ability to pay," Ms. Glazier pointed out. To Crown Little Miss On Saturday AVALON- Little Miu Avalon will be crowned during ceremonies in Community Hall here starting 8 p.m. July 12. She will succeed Megan Wesihead who last year reigned over the borough's first Family Day. This year it will be a two-day occasion, August 2 and 3. The competition, for 11-, 11- and 12-year-olds, local residents and visitors, includes rswimsuit and evening gown judging. Entry blanks are still available at the hall or the 8th St. Tehnis courts.

Octopus Best In Sand Art AVALON - Tb* borough’s annual sand ■culptirlng contest drew numerous participants to the 40th St. beach July 8 deapite heavy fog. First place in this year’s contest went to a life-like octopus created by Deborah, Mary aad Robert Kerr tmi Dick Janes of Rochester, N. Y. An ever popular subject In Avalon was the winner of second place "Save the Turtles" depicted by a giant sand turtle covered with shells It was the creation of Ryaa aad Reed Breaeman of Reading, Pa. The third place prize went to the creators of "Breakfast in America,” displaying a plate of fried eggs, sausage, toast, coffee and Juice. It was done by the Corbaa, Gbney, Tardo. Harlehey and Caballo families with a little help thrown in by Mike LaRae. Some of the other creations included a pair of sneakers, a tomb for the ayatohia, a whale, the Devils Den,(a very Intricate maze land a mother dog with her nursing pups. The Recreation Dept sponsored the event as part of the July Fourth weekend activities, winners were presented engraved silver

Little Miss Aspirants Are Sought STONE HARBOR - Registrations will be received July 14-19 from girls ages 6 to 10 for the Little Miss Stone Harbor contest. Applications fo register are available at the Chamber of Commerce office 212-98th street. The contest will be 7:30 p.m. July 2S in the elementary school, 93rd and Third Ave. Mayor James G. Wood will present trophies to the winner and first and second runner-ups. The queen and her court will represent the borough in parades and special events during the , summer season here and other resort communities. Mrs. Harry Weir and Mrs. Gerald Stump are cochairing this year's event.
