At this very moment The Kinks' double live album "One For The Road" (AriaU) ia firmly neatled in the Top 20. The Kinks have worked long and hard to regain the pop star atatua they enjoyed in the mid60a, and their return to the maasea couldn'j be more deserved "One For The Road captures the fun and looseness of a Kinks’ show When seeing The Kinks, one is treated to the highpoints of each stage of their career Here we have oldies such as "You Really Got Me,” "All Day And The Night,” "Stop Your Sobbing,” and "Lola.” as well as the more recent tunes like "Low Budget." "Superman," and "Miafits.” RAY DAVIES is the pleasant entertainer he always is and brother Dave belts out some exquisite guitar breaks. The Kinks have never stopped making excellent music, but it sure is nicer when people get to
hear it.
Magazine's first two albums were more on the arty side of the new wave. Although pretentious at times. Magazine, nevertheless. showed a lot of promise, most of which has been realized on "The Correct Use Of Soap" (Virgin). Magazine has loosened up a bit. making their songs more dan ceable, and. therefore, fun.

THE TOURISTS are another new British group and their American debut is a must for fans of 60 s rock with a modem approach. "Reality Effect (Epic) nicely blends a rich Byrds guitar sound with British invasion vocals and the energy of the new

Ann Lennox could become a major star and their remake of “I Only Want To Be With You” deserves hit status. The return of Humble Pie is a mixed blessing. True, they have more class, drive, and talent than the average successful heavy metal band, but, as their new album "On To Victory" (Atco) clearly points out. the group is playing it safe, rehashing old riffs, but without the energy they once had. This will probably be of interest only to their hardcore followers AFTER SERVING time with The Sidewinders and Piper, Boston bred Billy Squier seems to be on the verge of good things with his first solo effort "The Tale Of The Tape" (Capitol). Squier blends heavy metal with pop-rock. "Who's Your Boyfriend” could easily be the hit he . needs. No matter what, Squier should attract attention this summer as he's the opening act for the current Alice Cooper tour.
