medicine. He was the sou of a doctor and one of three brothers, all of whom followed their father's footsteps. But it was to Harold to return home following his father’s failing health to carry on the Hughes medical practice locally. BORN IN neighboring West Cape May, he graduated from Cape May High School (living to see Ms 50th class reunion last month) and was a 1938 graduate of Hahnemann Medical College in . Philadelphia. Hundreds turned out for an eventual testimonial to Dr* Hughes two years ago. despite its postponement because of his illness In the audience were mothers [ whose babies he had delivered, sitting beside the babies who were now mothers of their own. HE WAS AMONG the county doctors who first gathered together to establish what is today the county's only hospital. Prior to Dr. Hughes and Ms contemporaries. Cape May natives either came into the world at home or in Philadelphia, (sometimes, in between). He had also been chief of medicine at Burdette Tomlin Hospital. Dr. Hughes is survived by his wife Anna; two daughters, Linda Wilson of Oceanside, Calif., and Patricia Smith of North Cape May; a sob David of Tuscon; two stepsons, Joseph v<md Richard Borska of Cape May; two brothers, Dr. Samuel of Rialto, Cal'f., and Dr. David of Canada, and five grandchildren. He was buried in Cold Spring Cemetery, Contributions in Ms memory may be sent to the hospital Memorial Fund or to the Cape May Rescue Squad.
