People seem to have given up on the idea of a Beatles’ reunion. At least few talk about it these days. But. that doesn't mean there won’t be more vinyl output from the fab four. Capitol recently dipped into their vaults for some obscure gems and the end result. “Rarities'' (Capitol) is a pleasant addition to any record collection. RARITIES” makes available for the first time in America different versions of already familiar songs. The different mixes, as weir as the few cases where the music and words differ from what we originally got, give new light to the talents of The Beatles Most of the time, these versions were originally held back because they didn’t stand up to the others, but this collection is fun and a must for any fan of early Beatles. PETE TOWNSHEND'S second solo album “Empty Glass” OVtco) is an amazing record. Unlike his retent releases with The Who, “Empty Glass” is a powerhouse album. The songs are aggressively brash, the vocals confident and relaxed, and the backing tight and hard. If this is an indication of the quality of the next Who album, anglophiles have a

lot to look forward to. WITH SKA music being the big trend in England and doing fairly well on our charts, thanks to The Specials, Madness, and The Selector, Trojan Records of England has put out an exquisite six-record set, “Creation Rockers" of original ska and reggae Collecting Jamaican greats such as The Wallers, Big Youth, Peter Tosh, and MLkey Dread, the music is raw and primitive and the rhythms lazy yet enticing. STILL CULT items in the states, ska and reggae fans will need to search import shops for these excellent sides. If only some label would take the chance and release these six albums in the states; this music is too good to be ignored. 3-D’s debut for Polydor shows some promise, but the flat production detracts from their energetic pop tunes. Their writing and performances hint they could develop into a contending band, but it won't be this time around. On the other hand, The Tigers' first effort, "Savage Music" (A&M) is a snappy rock-pop effort. Melodic tunes and firegr * playing make this a fun record that holds up well to repeated playings. The Tigers also show some added depth by pdding a reggae flavor to several of the arrangements.
