COLD SPRING - Republican Township Committee candidate James MacDonald has proposed a Consumer Protection Dept, for Lower Township. “It is time for Lower Township to come to grips with the type of problems which our residents are facing," he said in a news release. “Our senior citizens, as well as all our residents should have an official Consumer Protection Unit. This should be a place where people can register complaints and a record will be kept. “I AM NOT suggesting a complete new department be set up. At ‘Night in Venice’ Pact for OC-Based TV Series Signs Sat.
OCEAN CITY — An agreement to initiate a new TV series that will be seen by millions of viewers throughout the U.S. will be signed at this resort’s gala "Night In Venice"
celebration, July 28.
"Ocean City Alive." a band-stand variety show to feature Ed Hurst, who hosted a similar program from Atlantic City's Steel Pier for many years, will air In the summer of 1981 from this city’s Music Pier. Hurst will be a guest of honor at the Ocean City Yacht Club "Night In Venice” evening and officially announce the upcoming series with Mayor
Chester Wimberg.
The Night In Venice Boat Parade will begin 6 p.m. from the Longport Bridge and conclude at 22nd St. Over 100 decorated boats will compete in a number of categories according to size and theme. Hundreds of bayfront homes will also be decorated along the parade route; prizes will be awarded to outstanding
entries.

The ceremony heralding the series, which is expected to attract many tpp recording artists to this family resort, will be held on the dock of the Yacht Club overlooking Great
Egg Harbor Bay.
Thirteen shows will be presented next season and the producers plan to highlight many of the City’s special events along with the entertainment.
Family Weekend Sets 2 Days of Activities
AVALON - The borough’s Fir?t Family Day last year has now become the Second Annual Family Weekend, Aug. 2 and 3 when the entire weekend will be dedicated to the family with events for all ages. The Recreation Committee, which sponsors the event, has scheduled a parade to begin the activities at 11 a.m. AUg. 2. Leading the parade will be Little Miss Avalon of 1980 and her court on a specially designed float Their float will be- followed by the mayor and council members, fire and police, rescue personnal and scores of kids on decorated bikes (the bikes will be judged). AFTER A BRIEF ceremony outside Community Hall, the crowds will be free to sample the wares and sights of the various booths and displays in the hall’s south parking lot. A hot dogs and soda picnic will be available from 1 to 2:30 p.m. From 1 to 3 p.m. the Doctors of Rhythm Band
will entertain, and people can view the posters that have been entered in the poster contest aopouncing the weekend. Also during this time there will be pony rides for the youngsters in tile'tot lot. AT 4 P.M.. Bob Shannon will present a magic show and balloon demonstration. At 9 p.m. the lights will dim and the Russ Patrich Orchestra will begin to play, and the dancing will begin and go on until midnight at community Hall. Sunday. Aug. 3, will begin at 9 a.m. with a 10,000 meter run, sponsored by Sportsthreads, this will be a street run, not on the beach. At noon, there will be a bike race beginning at community Hall, followed by a physical fitness program at 1 p.m., basketball shooting contest at 1:30 and field activities at 2:30 with races, ball throwing, etc. The weekend will climax with the Awards Ceremony at 4:30 at Community Hall.
