LOWER TOWNSHIP - The regionalization of the Middle Township and Lower Township Police Depts. is under active coroideratidn —at least by officials here. “Everybody’s very enthusiastic about it. Mayor Tom Clydesdale commented late Monday night, following a night meeting with his Whale Of A Week' Coming MIDDLE TWP. - The Wetlands Institute and Greenpeace are getting together for two special programs on whales next week. Qu Wednesday evening, Aug. 13, starting at 8:15, two films on whales will be shown. Voyage to Save the Whales is an award winning documentary recounting the beginnings of the Greenpeace movement. Believing that the world's diminishing whale population is no match for today's whaling industry, the men and women of Greenpeace seek out and intercept the whaler’s ships, bringing them to a
halt.

associates, Lower Township Committee members Peggie Bieberbach and Jack Moran. Lower Township solicitor John Callinan and Police Chief Robert Denny were also on hand. . A REGIONALIZED force would at present give the two townships a combined law enforcement strength of some 58 personnel to cover an area about half the size of the county — and enable either municipality to throw a force into a particular trouble spot in one municipality or the other if the need arose. While acknowledging that the police regionalization proposal was "just in the talking stage’’ as of Monday night's meeting, the mayor added that solicitor Callinan "would like to sit down with everybody and bring the thing to a head and get it in operation if we can." MR. CLYDESDALE'S understanding is that Middle Township first broached the idea a couple of years ago, but that it “died on the vine.” Now, the Lower Township mayor said, "everybody* going to have tosit down and work on it.” The mayor revealed the regionalization proposal after bejng asked by the Herald and Lantern if he thought the Lower ' Township force had suffrage 3 Please)

to create additional parking places during the summer thfu modified parking restrictions. The bill would allow a municipality bordering on the Atlantic 1 Ocean to permit the parking of motor vehicles within 15 feet of a stop sign. The present regulation prohibits parking within 50 feet of a stop sign, and has the Brideston Assemblyman noted, created many problems with parking in. many shore resort communities. MR. CHINNICI credited Mayor Ellsworth Armacost of Avalon with first raising the idea of modifying the parking restriction. The mayor had observed that due to the great summer influx of visitors to the shore resorts, both compliance with and enforcement of the 50 ft. parking restriction had been impractical. The measure —A-37 — would restrict the newly create^ parking zones to vehicle not in excess of 7 ft. in height so as not to create a visibility hazard at intersections. The summer rule wpuld also be in effect between May 15 and September 15. AJ-37 STILL faces action in the Senate, but Chinnici (Page 3 Plewc)
