AVALON - Dan O'Malley took three of four events to continue as Avalon's representative when the sixth annual General Edgar V.H. Bell Memorial Rowing and Swimming Races took

place here July 31.

It was the first in a series of summer lifeguard races in which local guards participate. The top competitors dill be attending the Tri-Resorts Race here, the Dutch Hoffman Race (in Wildwood), the Margate Memorials and the South Jersey Championships. SINCE IMS, Avalon Beach Patrol has been Tri Resort champions 10 out of 12 years. They also held the South Jersey Title twice and won., the Margate

Memorial. ,

The recent race is named in honor of the former Avalon mayor who avidly supported the lifeguards in all their endeavors. Mrs. Ruth Beil and Public Safety Director Joseph Foley presented winners with their plaques. ' WINNERS INCLUDED: ROWING DoaMes — Boat Race: 1. Dave Kerr and Dan O'Malley, 2. Brian Keyser and John Hoover. 3. Peter Soderman and Robert Graham. Slagles — Rowing: 1. Dan -O'Malley (5:36), 2. John Barton (5:38), 3. Dave Kerr (5:40). SWIMMING *4 Mile - 1. Ed Florev (14:30), I. Jeff Trew (14:57), ,3. John Haulic (15:14). Surf Dash OSa-yds.) - 1. Dan O’Malley, 2. Bob Pellini, 3. Bob Devries. The schedule for the other races' includes TriResort, Aug. 13; Dutch Hoffman, Aug. 7; South Jersey Championship,. Aug. 17, and Margate Memorials, Aug. 22.

RIO GRANDE - A prize for everyone will be the order of the day at the free Kids Dog Show starting at 10 a.m., Aug. 9, at the Rio Grande Park. All county children betweep 4 and 14 who have a dog are invited toenter. Any dog may compete, regardless of breed, pedigree or professional training, provided it is at leastsix months old. The Kids Dog Show is sponsored Jointly as a public service by the National Recreation and Park Assoc., Ken-L Ration and Middle Township Recreation Dept. Judging categories include best behaved, funniest, best trick, smallest dog, largest dog, best looking, and best of show. Desert Card Party Thursday Morning AVALON — The annual desert card party sponsored by the 5 Point Club will begin 10 a m. Aug. 7 in the Avalon Rm. of Borough

Hall.

Everyone who enjoys any card game is invited tooo participate. Proceeds are donated to local charities.
