In recent action, the Mug shut out Everlon Fabrics 11M) with solid homemn support. Jerry Griffin was
the winning pitcher.
THE UGLY MUG also beat Bayshore Lounge and then outfought Rieka of Rio Grande in an excellently played game with a threerun sixth inning highlighted by a three-run homer by Jimmy RMdle. The final score was 12-9. These two teams squared off one more time before
the playoffs began.
The second place Coast Guard Bears annihilated Coast Guard Electronics 18-1. defeated the C-View Inn and ended up their week by scoring four runs in the seventh inning to knock offf Kona Sports 1S14 to raise their record to 22
and 2.
THIRD PLACE Kona rebounded to beat Ricks of Rio Grande 11-7, National Associates 14-5. Ricks of Rio Grande got solid defense and awesome hitting to beat Coast Electronics 27-5 and P & K Associates 14-8. In the P A K contest Bob Hutchins, Ron PoIHlo, Ken Rybeck and Brendan Rosenborg all slugged home runs.
A red hot buck squad won a pair of games last week aa well. They shut down National Associates 8-3 and then completely shut out Parkway Exxon 94. Their defense has been superb over the last two weeks. PARKWAY EXXON end«*4heir slump with a solid victory over the CView Inn to enhance their efforts to making the playoffs. Grandes Bar defeated Captain Sigs with late inning rallies in the fifth, sixth and seventh. Then in the big upset of the week Captain Sigs played one of their finest games of the season as they upset Laws. ED MOORE and Bill Soap went 4 for 5 and Gary Otmondsen went 3 for 4 to pace the outstanding offense of Captain Sigs Seafood. The Cape may Men's Softball League Playoffs begin Aug. 11 as the top eight teams in the league squared off on four different fields and battled it out in a best of three series. STANDINGS W L I. AVALON - Athlete* and art lovers will find several activities of interest here this week. On ItNirvday evening at 8, the summer basketball tournament will come to a close with the final playoff for the championship. The men's doubles tennis tournament will also .be taking place this week. Winners of the tournaments to date include: Women’s Singlet - i - Prtscella Ebert - 8-4, 7-5; Women’s Doubles — Solly Williams and Teas Campbell who defeated Prlscella Ebert and Barbara McKay; Tom Lubas defeated “Skip’’ Shumaker to take the Men’s Singles Tide.
There will be an Arts and Crafts Festival at Community Hall on Saturday with artists and craftsmen setting up from 10 until noon and from 1 to 5 p.m. ^ Included will be fine arts, - varied crafts, and a / children’s .division. The Arts and Crafts Dept, of the Recreation Committee have been raffling off 0 quilt for the benefit of the Marine > Manna 1 Stranding Center in Atlantic City.
