TRENTON - Many Cape May County World War I Veterans would qualify for federal benefits if- legislation currently .before Congress Is approved. according to Cape May County American Legion Cmdr. Edward Dellnakl of North Wild-
wood.
The bill (P.R. ms) would pay a pension not to exceed 8150 per month to each World War I veteran who has a annual income of less than 810,000 and who meets certain other requirements, Dellnakl explained. l
The proposed legislation has received the full support of the Cane May County Committee of The American Legion, whfch submitted a resolution backing the proposal dTPhe American Legion State Executive Committee. The committee unanimously endorsed the resolution According to American f County Legiod Executive Committeeman Ray Young of Tuckahoe, the resolution notes that veterans of Work) War I are. as a general class, members of the low income group of
American citizens, snd as such are entitled to relief from the high cost of living that has resulted from inflation. Young added that the average age of World War I veterans Is now 84 years and that a large percentage are house-bound and In need of care.
