Avalon Captures Tri-City

AVALON - The Avalon I Beach Patrol kept up their winning way* by capturing the Tri-City Lifeguard j Races thi* past week. The annual event between Sea Isle, Stone Harbor and Avalon was hosted by Avalon this year Sea Isle made ft a close contest right to the very

end.

Going into the final fevent — — the surf dash, Avalon and Sea Isle were tied with 16 points each. Avalon won that event and the final team scores were Avalon 21, Sea Isle 17, and Stone Harbor?. AVALON STARTED right off with Dan O'Malley and Dave Kerr winning the l'-j mile doubles boat race with their team of John Hoover and Brian Keyser taking third even though they had to retrieve ah oar at the start. Ed Florey continued Avalon's winning ways with a first place victory in thelhTee-fourth mile swim. 171 the one-fourth mile singles boat race, Sea Isle started to catch up with Doug Aiken and Tom McCann winning first and second. THE IRON MAN relay, a relay contest with swimmer. runner and rower, was won by Bruce llulse.

Dan O'Malley and EdFlory. The Sea Isle team of Jim Early. Doug Aiken and Brian Bowen took second and Pete Moran. Larry Koiakowski and Craig Romanowskl, also of Sea Isle, captured third. This set the stage for the final event, a 150 yd. surf dash. The Avalon team of Dan O'Malley, Bob Pel. Bruce llulse. Jeff Xrew and tbrls McCann won the evoin — and the title. AVALON HAS WON the Tri City’s four consecutive times and 11 out of the last 13. Ferry Traffic Up 29%

N. CAPE MAY - During July traffic on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry increased by 10,468 vehicles and 36,888 passengers from July a year ago. Ferry traffic last month was 46,804 vehicles and 162,480 passengers compared to 36;336 vehicles and 125,592 passengers for July 1979, an increase of almost 29 percent for vehicles and over 29% for passengers.

For the 12-month period ended July 31, traffic was 222,857 vehicles and 666,926 passengers compared to 207,451 vehicles and 615,240 passengers a year ago —
