Mayor James Wood directed the solicitor to draft an amendment to the off-street parting ordinance requiring two 12«ft. * curb cuts for single family dwellings and four duplex residences. The proposed change would apply only to new or converted housing. Sheer Bros. Inc. was the apparent lowest qualified bidder for the installation of water mains along Second Ave. between tilth and 121st. Six bids were received ranging from $51.776 to $79,600. Resident william Darling of Sunset Dr. warned that public use of the bulkhead at the end of his street had reached dangerous proportions. Many fish from the bulkhead and clean their catches there, he explained. and the remains of the fish create a stench and

attract rats.

Mr. Darling also warned Council that the borough was risking a lawsuit because so many unattended young children swim there — jumping from the bulkhead and swimming to his dock, which provides the easiest access back to shore. He requested the area be policed to preclude serious injury or fatality.

ERMA — The Lower Cape May Regional School District Board of Education has authorized a five percent Increase in the contract with private school bus drivers.. The action came during a special Aug. 12 board meeting at the Teitelman School. According to (tyMrict superintendent E.R. Keller, inflation and spiraling fuel costs had left •the contracted drivers “really hurting" sinc£ the "big increases" had hit them after the four-year contracts were entered into

over a year ago.

STATE REGULATIONS allow a minimum-maxi-mum five percent increase in contracts without having logo to bid anew. That Victorian structure (the town's former golf club and before that a private home) is currently embroiled in aj> architectural conrroversy, the city seeking to prevent its demolition by the new owner who wants to build private homes on the site.
