For yfears Dave Davies has Men content to let his big brother Ray be the guiding light of The Kinks. True, Dave contributed some excellent tunes and a forceful lead guitar to The Kinks, but only die-hard fans were aware of his talents. Hopefully, his first solo outing (RCA) will change allthat. The key to the success of this record is the fact it's so low-key. The songs are often lazy, although extremely political In content, and Dave’s voice is loose, sloppy and natural, giving the whole affair a relaxed atmosphere. DAVE DAVIES doesn't pound his listeners over the head with mind-numbing guitar riffs, nor does he lull one over with lush, standard singer-songwriter melodies. No. Dave Davies sounds like an old friend, trying his best to entertain. Anyone who has followed the Kinks since the midsixties will already own this,' but Dave has the potential of reaching far

check out Mr. Demento’s "Dementia Royald’. r (Rhino, 11609 West Pico Blvd., Los Angeles. CA. 90064). Gathering together some of the most popular tracks from the Mad Doctor's radio show, we're treated to Weird Al Yankovic's "My Bologna." pro-wrestler Fred Blassie's "Pentyl Neck Geek," and Bobby ^ Pickett 4 Peter FerranTs "Stardrek." Some of these tunes might be found offensive, but more often than not, they’ll have the listener in

stitches.

NERVDS REX is a new New York band that offers charming pop tunes, almojit in a folk-rock vein. Their debut for Dreamland Records finds them writing simple yet catchy $ongs and singing them in pleasant voices. 1980 MIGHT be comedian Rodney Dangerfield's greatest moment. Besides movies and television, he's also blitzing the world of vinyl. In fact, two longplayers, on two different labels, have recently been

issued.

"The Loser" (Rhino — same address as above) and "No Respect" (Casablanca) are both worth whatever they cost at your local f*ecord shop. Rodney Dangcrfield attacks daily problems such as cars, food, women, New York streets, etc. and milks them for as many laughs as possible. Rodney Dangcrfield is a comic genius who gets stronger with each passing year despite the fact he still can't get no respect.

Raffa Cites City’s Low

Tax Rate <

SEA ISLE CITY -This

_ resort has thf third-lowest '

lax rate in Cap4 May

County, notes Mayor

Dominic Raffa.

The local rate fs $1.46 per $100 of assessed valuation. Hie rate'in the county’s other 15 municipalities ranges from 81 cents to

$5 54

The city is third behind Upper Township (which has no local purpose tax doe to revenues it receives via the electric generating station from the Gross Receipts tax) and Stone Harbor, whose rate is .023 cents lower than Sea Isle. • ska ISLE City has able to supply all or more' of the services that other Cape May County communities do. but we are able to do it at less cost to the taxpayers.” the Mayor emphasized in a news release. Mr. Raffa- noted that the local tax rate is about half that of communities like Cape May. Woodbfne and West Wildwood, and nearly half that of Ocean City. "OUR LOW TAX rate shows good government management,'' the mayor said, "and I give much of the credit to the dedicated departihent heads for giving Sea Isle City the most service for the least money." His siatement came in the wake of the local Charter Study Commission’s recent report which recommended a council-manager form of government. Mr. Raffa, the longtime mayor here under the Commission form of government, opposes the change. The question will be on the ballot in November.
