About this time ot the season I net out my earlier column*, and see how I made out on my January prfdictionr I had aomt good foresight this year, predicting mackerel would be plentiful, and that big blues would chew their tails off. then be plentiful all summer And I was pretty good at predicting the movemenU of Alack Drum, and the fact that the tiderunner weakfish would show with thenp in quantity. But I sure did jmiss on kingfish and

croakers - neither a has showed a writing. MY THOUGHTS on Canyon fishing were just about right, as white and blue marlin have been taken, and so have quite a few bull and lady dolphins, along wiUi big yellow fin tuna and big eye tuna. My guess (educated because of the oceangraphic- studies), proved right on flounder; they are here, and they’re * in good quantity But the catches I didn't

tremendous taka of slammer Mues and big weakfish in the Ocean by the daytime head boats and the night chumming boats that are still producing vily as of this writing. I just didn’t think those weakfish would be here this long, and as of the first of the year I was still worrying about the gas shortage which never developed. THE FACT remains though that the flounder fishing in the Ocean is still producing heavy quantities of catches almost every day. I could write a whole column on the flounder fishing that Bob Hertxog. his grandson Richie Raysan, and I enjoyed last Sunday as we brought home 44 flatties on the Janie TVII, but I’ve got to get on to reporting on night chumming action. Ray Brown of the Villas was telling me he was out on the Tbanderbird Saturday night, jind they really loaded up on those big tiderunners and monster blues. Ray had 14 weakies and 8 blues all by himself. He said there must have been 200 fish caught that night. Moat of his weakies were in the 12 lb.

on a par of size.

KARYN LEHMANN of Villas said that on Wednesday night Kevin Smith, who is visiting her home, went out on the Thnnderhird and got 12 big weakies and blues, and that there was another big total catch that night also. Now, I know I am only mentioning one head boat, buTthe Starlight, Rainbow. Sea Raider, and Big Jim have been enjoying the same kind of success this

past week.

IN THE DAYTIME some of the head boats stuck to flounder during the first part of the week with extra good catches, but later on in the week some of them started going back up the Bay after weakfish and flounder again. Cpt. Jim Solly, on the Fiesta was reporting very good catches of weakfish and flounder in the Bug Light area, so the action moves back and forth each week as the season progresses. These party boat captains are following the fish, and they're hitting big catches each day until the results seem unbelievable. IF THE WEATHER continues, our fall fishing will reach unheard of proportions, so I guess when we say it’s the greatest season yet, we’re not exaggerating. Surf fishing will start soon, and jetty fishing is already producing very well. Our own local Cape May Co.-Hatteras Anglers are fielding a team in the Brigantine Surf fishing tournament this Sunday, and the catches ought to be

excellent.

If you haven't gotten in much fishing yet, get out thcre-because the quantity and quality of fish ate the greatest yet. And take a kid with you in this best of seasons ever. Del’Lasses ‘80 Softball Champs . CAPE MAY - Dellas Realtors made up for previous final play-offs by Wasting no time in the best-of-three series to deter •mine the Women's League Softball-Championship. Solid defense and fine hitting enabled Del'Lasses to sweep a double header from State Farm Insurance of Cape May Court House, 1(H) and 12-2. Kim Dellas, Angela Jackson, Mary Krah, Debhfe Sups and Robin Gilbert were among the standouts for the winners. AFTER LOSING in the finals the past two years, Debases were anxious to prove themselves fast and early. >
