can those who are elected be truly representative of the people. Her comments came as part of a news release from Secretary of-State Donald Lan in observances of the 60th anniversary of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment to the US. Constitution, which provides for Women's Suffrage. Purchasing Dept. Saves Thousands SEA ISLE CITY - This city has saved $33,400 on purchases during the first seven months of 1900, according to a report by city purchasing agent James Temiso. Quantity buying through consolidation of departmental needs has been a significant factor in generating these savings, according to Terruso. There has also been a savings as the result of a concentrated effort to increase the number of vendors competing for city contracts for goods and services she noted. Through negotiations, quotations and formal bidding, the purchasing department has been able to save “substantial amounts," on chemicals, equipment purchases, sporting goods, office equipment and janitorial supplies, he said. Annual purchases Such as beach badges alone were reduced by $1,000, water and sewer pipe fitting costs were reduced by $5,230; printed matter costs went down about $900, and office supplies costs were reduced by some $1,500 by obtaining a more favorable discount
rate.
Mr. Terruso complimented the various city departments for thier cooperation in helping to achieve the savings. ■ i —
